In that case, the 1939 details must be incorrect - which is not very helpful!

Nicola Report 9 Feb 2017 21:22

I know that Richard F Sinclair lived in Hammersmith area most of his life, married in late 1930's and pretty sure had no children from this marriage.
He died in late 70's or early 80's, still in that area. 99% sure he is Richard F Sinclair, Death June 1978, Fulham.
I need to show this latest info to a family member and hope something jogs a memory.
Thanks

Nicola

Nicola Report 18 Feb 2017 23:45

Hoping someone could tell me how I can obtain Richard F Sinclair service records.
The form is a nightmare! which I have printed off but I am not next of kin.
Richard (Husbands grandfather) was born 1919 and died in 1978, Can't request online and unless the person was born over 116 years ago you have to supply death cert.
After research discovered that Richard has no descendants or living family apart from my husbands mother (who knows very little about him) But he had a fascinating RAF service history, that no one knew about. and I can only scratch the surface of without access to his service records. Any advice would be great.

It looks like you might have to take a chance and order a copy of the 1978 death cert, and hope it's the right one.

Nicola Report 19 Feb 2017 23:40

Thanks for your reply, I have ordered copy of death cert and hope that it's enough to get his service records.

Hi Nicola,

You could try The Wartime memories Project - and go into WW2 - you have his service number so that might help. Follow your 'nose' and have a look at the site. I found help with my Uncle killed in WW2 and they gave me his Service Number - I did spend the 30 pounds and it was well worth it.

Good luck,.

It may help.

I have now got some details of Richard Francis Sinclair's service records.
It's a different Richard born in Jan 1920, Essex and not 27th Aug 1919, Fulham.
I have yet again, followed the wrong path.
So I now have a service report of RFS and it is very interesting reading but it is not my RFS ( who is still missing from marriage in 1939 until 1946)
I would like to pass this report on to any family of RFS born 28th Jan 1920 in Billericay, Essex Enlisted 1940 while living in Brentwood Essex.
As yet I can't find any family?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Mar 2017 13:28

These are the parents of that wrong RFS:

Marriages Sep 1907 (>99%)
FRANCIS Mona Kingston 2a 913
SINCLAIR Robert Russell Kingston 2a 913

In 1939, Richard F, Mona H (b1879), and Robert R (b1877) are all in Brentwood.
Also two more people (I don't have credits to see the details.)

Possible sibling of Richard??

SINCLAIR, WALTER ROBERT mms FRANCIS
GRO Reference: 1909 J Quarter in BILLERICAY Volume 04A Page 675

Walter's in Chelmsford in 1939, with Renee M, born 1914..

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Mar 2017 13:39

Marriages Mar 1935 (>99%)
Bliss Renée M Sinclair Billericay 4a 879
Sinclair Walter R Bliss Billericay 4a 879

Two (or maybe three) Sinclair / Bliss births in Chelmsford 1942 and 1945.
Daughter in 1945.
Either twin boys or one boy with a correction to the first name, (probably the latter)in 1942.

The daughter probably married in Chelmsford in 1970.
She, with husband, and two sons are on Chelmsford ER in 2006 - I don't have credits on 192.com to see address.
One son born 1978 Chelmsford - he's on Chelmsford ER until 2004.
The other son born 1984 Chelmsford, and on ER to 2006..

However, this is all to do with the WRONG Richard!, not your one!

Thanks for the info,
I thought it maybe a easy search to reunite the other Richard's POW service report to any family interested. A friend went to a lot of effort to get them for me and don't want to have completely wasted his time.
Still looking for my RFS though and there is a RF Sinclair on the British Army Casualty Lists 1939-1945, event 1944?
Could anyone tell me the details of that record please?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 3 Mar 2017 21:17

I don't see that record on Ancestry. What website did you find it on?

Ancestry has these (not casualties):

R . F . Sinclair
in the UK, British Army Lists, 1882-1962
Name: R . F . Sinclair
Military Year: 1944
Regiment: The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
Rank: Quarter Master

R . F . Sinclair

Rank: 2nd Lieutenant

R . F . Sinclair
in the UK, British Army Lists, 1882-1962
Name: R . F . Sinclair
Military Year: 1944

You need membership of Fold3 to be able to see the details.

On the CWGC website, this is the only death of an R F Sinclair in WW2 - so not Richard, and not in 1944:

SINCLAIR, ROBERT FINLAYSON Civilian 01/09/1942 47
Civilian War Dead United Kingdom BORNEO

Nicola Report 3 Mar 2017 21:51

It's on Find my Past
British Army Casualty Lists 1939-1945
R F Sinclair ( nothing in the Born or Died column but 1944 in event column

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 3 Mar 2017 22:11

I don't have an FMP sub - I'm sure someone else will look it up for you.

Nicola

Nicola Report 3 Mar 2017 22:14

I have copy of death cert for my Richard Francis Sinclair Died 20 June 1978 in Hammersmith, Born 27th Aug 1919.
Just can't find him after marriage to Edith Miles in 1939 until late 1940's when he is living with Joan Vera Sinclair( no marriage that I can find)
Joan Vera Sinclair is next of kin on death cert.
Assuming he must have been serving in the war during the gap and now I know he was not in RAF ( that was other RFS) so hoping he is the RFS on the British Army Casualty Lists 1939-1945.
Only other thing that has been mentioned by family about him is that he may have been in the Queen's Guards and worn a busby??
