I have had a quick look through the GRO index of Army marriages but could not see anything that fits.

Have you bought one of the birth certs for one of the British born children to prove Julia's maiden name?

Pete

Pete Report 4 Feb 2008 10:27

Of course, it is entirely possible that he married an irish girl during a tour of duty in Ireland and then took her with him to India.

Dear Jacky

Soldiers wives did travel with them.

My gggg grandfather was in the army in the 1840s and was posted to Ireland where he married an Irish girl and she went with him to Malta with his regiment.

Best wishes

Dear Jacky

What regiment was he in? If he got married in Ireland the regimental museum might have records.

Do you have his army no? His army records might be at Kew.

best of luck

Maria

P.S. I had another thought - if you know where his regiment might have been in Ireland you could ask Inis for a lookup - she has a thread on this board offering lookups.

Nothing online. His records should be at National Archives ,Kew. If there is a museum for the regiment, then they might have a little information on him., so worth a try!

Do you mean you've looked at National Archives and can't find him? Well, you won't because he won't be listed by name on the catalogue. You'd need to go there to search for any record of him. Or do you mean you can't find a museum for the regiment? Let me know what you mean, and I'll explain!
