That's why I posted the deaths - the chances are that the widow registered Thomas's, but it may have been a child of the marriage who registered Christina's

Sarah's birth

CRAIG
SARAH
F
1928
644/5 673
Garngadhill

If you go to Scotland's people website, you can order a copy of Christina's death cert

CRAIG
SARAH
F
1928
644/5 673
Garngadhill

There were 25 Craig births registered in Garngadhill (assuming her parents remained in the same area) 1924-1935.

Don't know if any of them are siblings or not - though there's one named Francis Xavier Craig (1934) - died 1988 - who would definitely be born to RC parents.

There's a Thomas born 1926, and a Christina born 1927 - but they're common names.

Erika she may have married in N Ireland as Arthur Mcbride was from there. Arthur was born 22nd Jul 1920 in Belfast...died 1979. They had two sons between them. Damion St John Mcbride born 1971 who died 2006 and another son who is still alive so I don't think.i can name him on here. I've not found him I just know about him.
Dennis who has posted on this site is the partner of my mums sister. They were given up by Sarah separately and never met unfortunately.

Looking at deaths in Scotland for Craigs with mmn Kelly - in case they are siblings of Susan

The only one I can see where the death might possibly match a Garngadhill birth is a Margaret, 1927 - 2009:

Birth:

CRAIG
MARGARET
F
1927
644/5 79
Garngadhill

Death:

CRAIG ( also listed as Hart )
MARGARET
82
mmn KELLY
2009
575/ 53
East Kilbride

That woman's marriage:

CRAIG
MARGARET
HART
JOHN MCLEAN
1949
654/ 1
Rutherglen

But without buying the birth cert you won't know if she's Susan's sibling or not.

Francis Xavier's death record doesn't show his mother's name on SPs basic transcription - so he might be worth following up

Thanku Argyll...
It's likely those could be siblings as they're family names so it's worth me checking into tvm :)

Erika thanku I'll look for Sarah's deaths cert but she died in London so I'd need to find it in English records.
This has been what the problem is with Sarah....3 different countries, different names and about 11 different children that she gave up over two decades.
I think she may have ran away when she was 20ish and only went back to Glasgow with my mum...maybe for help from her parents but as she abandoned my mum there with a neighbour then went back to England....maybe they didn't wish to help her and that's why I think she probably wouldn't be the one registering her parents deaths.

Thanku to the both of u...uv given me more info than I thought possible. I've been stuck for months and not getting anywhere. Uv both helped more than I think ul know.
My mum passed in March but I wanna keep going to try find out Sarah's story....I don't think she was a bad person..it must have taken some strength to give up all those kids...and walk away from my mum who she'd cared for for about 4yrs. It's just all so sad.

Thanku I'll look Margaret up and get her cert.

The other Mcbride son is on the ER for 2010

ErikaH Report 3 Aug 2021 16:53

It's not Sarah/Susan's death cert that I suggested you get - it's her mother's.. I said the informant may be A child of her marriage...........not for one minute suggesting it was Sarah/Susan

The death for Francis Xavier Craig doesn't show up when 'Kelly' is stipulated for MMN

Sian

Oh right sorry I'm on my phone and it's a lot to go thru. My mistake.

Re Francis Xavier -
I edited my earlier thread to say that his mmn isn't shown on SP's transcription of his death record - can't tell what his mmn was without the cert.

Erika do u know whereabouts pls the other Mcbride son was in 2010 from looking at the ER?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Aug 2021 17:09

If one stipulates the MMN, SP selects relevant records....or so it would appear

Re the McBride son -
He was in Woolwich.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Aug 2021 17:10

You can look it up on this site, Sian. Under the 'search' button at the top

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 3 Aug 2021 17:12

I don't see the McBride son on GR's ER - but he's on 192.com

EDIT:
Oh yes, he's on the ER on GR, but you must spell McBride with a capital B, or tick the "name variants" box for the surname.

Argyll thanku....I'll look into Francis.
Makes me wonder how many of those Craig's born in Garngahill could be Sarah's siblings...its quite exciting really.
Uv both really helped so much....thanks again.

ErikaH -
yes, if you stipulate the mmn, SP selects relevant deaths - but not all deaths have yet had the mmn added on SP's transcription.

Mother’s maiden surname - this wasn't included in the statutory index of deaths until 1974. The information is being added retrospectively starting with the early years although you may find it in some later entries as a result of individual record updates. If you enter a name in this field and the information hasn't been included in the index the record will not be found.

Thanks Erika....I've struggled doing things on this site as I'm using my phone and some of it doesn't work too well on my phone.

I'll look to see if there is an app.

Thanks for the clarification, AG.

Sian….an app for what?
