Alexander Report 31 Jul 2019 17:11

Thanks for the quick response. My mother was born in Maryhill,so the latter cert would be her.I think my mother had siblings from her dad,s first marriage but she would,nt talk about her family .I got James the son,s name from his father,s death cert,so I assumed he came from the first marriage The information on the website from Sandra,an old member was very relevant and it appeared she had a lot more. I am looking for any info on the family as there will possibly be a member who has any relevant info on the Alexander family.

ArgyllGran Report 31 Jul 2019 16:19

There's this birth of a child with mms McArthur in the right timeframe, which I'll post just in case - but unless the family moved house, it's probably not relevant:

ALEXANDER
THOMAS MCARTHUR
M
1919
651/ 832
Airdrie or New Monkland

Death:

ALEXANDER
THOMAS MCARTHUR
84
mms MCARTHUR <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
2003
564/ 642
Airdrie

EDIT:
In fact, he's probably the child of this couple:

Marriage:

ALEXANDER
JOHN
MCARTHUR
MARTHA
1897
651/ 55
Airdrie or New Monkland

Which of these births is your mother? (Possibly both - her birth may have been registered in two districts):

ALEXANDER
MARGARET MCNEIL
F
1933
644/6 397
Springburn

ALEXANDER
MARGARET MCNEIL

35 Alexander births in Springburn between 1914 and 1927. Unfortunately, none has the second forename 'McArthur', which might have been a clue!

I assume you would know if your mother had any siblings, so it must be children from the first marriage you're looking for?

What year was James born (in case the district helps to narrow it down) ?

EDIT: I mean James junior, the son from the first marriage.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 31 Jul 2019 15:50

Unfortunately, for births after 1854, it's not possible to use the mother's maiden surname as a search term on ScotlandsPeople website.

There are lots of Alexander births in Glasgow 1914-40 (1323 to be exact), and no way to know if any of them are James's children without buying all the certs, which is clearly unfeasibly expensive.

Sandra Report 24 May 2010 05:07

A very BIG thank-you to everyone that replied to my queries, you have been a great help, as I now have all the siblings names. I have my Grandfather's marriage cert. (Harry Alexander who was married in Australia in 1913 and it shows his parents as Andrew Alexander and Mary Jessett, also have Andrew and Mary Ann Jessett's M/C which shows James Alexander (his Father) occupation to be Stone Mason and Mary Ann's father as John Jessett, occupation Coachman. Also have John Thomas Jessett and Mary Ann Brewer's M/C 1858 giving their Father's occupations as Carter and Cooper. Mary Ann Alexander (nee Jessett) Death Cert. states she was married to Andrew Alexander (golf Club Maker) so I am sure I have the right family. Thanks again for all the help received, I am truly grateful as I had "hit a brick wall"
If anyone is looking for this family I have quite a bit more info. I am more than willing to share. Kind Regards, Sandra

There is something that needs sorting out

There are 89Public Family Trees on ancestry with mary Ann Jessett, parents John Jessett and Mary (Ann) Brewer

7 of them show Mary Ann Jessett not marrying, and dying in October 1912 in Wandsworth

1 has only the basic information on birth year and parents

Only 1 has Mary Ann Brewer marring Andrew Alexander, and dying in Scotland.

It seems to me that there is confusion about this poor woman.
