Find Ancestors

PLEASE can someone with more brain cells than me (at this late hour) see if they can find my chap?

His name is:-
HENRY VICTOR HOWARD HARDING, born 1869 in Old Trafford, Stretford, Manchester.

His papa died many years earlier in 1880 and he is not listed with his widowed mother (Beatrice) and spinster sister (Beatrice Jessie) in the 1911 Census.

His widowed mother helpfully tells us that one of her three children has died and I have since established that this is the other brother, Douglas.

I have searched and searched but I do find that the 1911 is not very user friendly. I have also searched for WWI records of him, without success.

PLEASE HELP! He is the last missing link and I do so need to find him. Also, if he was married there may be offspring . . .

The only record for Henry V H Harding on Ancestry is 1871 census

There is no marriage and no death

It may well be that he emigrated........................

He isn't with his mother and sister in 1901 - they are in Fulham, BTW

It may help to mention that he appears to have been known by one of his middle names of VICTOR throughout his life - presumably to distinguish him from his papa who was also Henry Harding.

Flick, he is there in 1881 and also 1891 as well but entered under his middle name of VICTOR first, i.e., Victor H.H. Harding.

So, he's still around in 1891. They were not a military family and it would be very out of character for him to emigrate. I know this sounds as if I'm making assumptions, but I do know alot about this family and I'm only putting this extra information on here to help.

Can anyone see anything else out there ???

It certainly IS him in 1901. Well done!

I will correct the transcription. The second 'H' has got itself in a bit of a wiggle and the middle initial is a curly 'V'!

I wonder why there are the two parallel lines between his initials and his surname? I've never come across that before. Have you?

Can I give this a little nudge please, in the hope that some of you burn the midnight oil??!

Thanks to Maureen, he is now located in the 1901. But since his mama helpfully indicates to us in 1911 that only one of her children has died, and we know that to be Douglas, our Henry Victor Howard Harding (or whatever combination of names he is using!!) must be findable on the 1911.

As I've already said, it is highly unlikely that he would have emigrated since it would be extremely out of character for this branch of the family. I feel it is much more likely that he is still in the UK, probably in London, to be near at hand to support his widowed mother and spinster sister.

I've not had much luck with the 1911. I do find it difficult because it seems that if you don't get the details right it won't "produce".

Anyone out there on for this one, please?

Sadly, that one was born in Edinburgh and is also stated as a Brother in Law to the Beal family.

We have absolutely no connection to any Beal's, I'm afraid.

Even if he used his second name for convenience in life, the odds are that his marriage (if any) and death would be recorded accurately, and as I said earlier, there isn't a marriage or death record on Ancestry for him under his birth names.

Thank you to everyone who has helped so far.

I've checked emigration records, WWI records as well.

Also, his father/mother/brother/sister are all buried in a four-high grave in All Souls' Cemetery (verified). But there is no sign of him.

Can ANYONE find him anywhere else, please? Is there someone with a spark of an idea out there this evening??

Have you considered the death of a Henry Harding in Manchester aged 36 in Dec 1906. Know it isn't what you were wanting but could someone have registered his death who didn't know his full name?-JLe

It's such a distinctive name. The problem with just a 'HENRY HARDING' is that there's so many of them. Although the Manchester link makes some sense.

Presume the top birth in 1869 is your man?...so who is the one in 1895? could he have had a son...same area which may indicate a relative..

Just to re-cap:

Clever Maureen found him in 1901, so he's deffo around then.

However, he IS NOT with his widowed mother and spinster sister in 1911.

And also not dead, since his mother helpfully tells us in 1911 that she had three children and one died. This, as mentioned above, is Douglas whose death and burial I have found. And all other four family members are buried in the same grave (papa Henry, mama Beatrice, son Douglas, daughter Jessie).
