Hi
I would love some help to go further back in the Adamson family line from Norfolk. I am following William John Adamson born 28 August 1845 at Old Buckenham, Norfolk. He married 15 May 1871 St Nicholas Gt Yarmouth to Sabina Jane Smith. Both died in New Zealand
Williams parents were William Holmes Adamson and Lydia Smith. William was christened 28 May 1826 at St Lawrence Church, South Walsham. He married Lydia 29 Jan 1844 All Saints Church, Old Buckenham, Norfolk. William died Jan 1886 Gt Yarmouth, Lydia in Auckland, NZ.
Williams parents were William Adamson who was christened 2 August 1802 (Free UK Parish Register) parents John Adamson and Tabitha Burroughs. He married Lydia Holmes 30 August 1824 St Edmund Church, Acle, Norfolk. William died abt July 1880 Attleborough, Norfolk. Lydia died abt June 1857 Wayland, Nofolk.
All Williams occupations were schoolmasters.
I would like help to go further back on Williams parents John and Tabitha. Free Uk Parish Registers Burials give me burial dates of Tabitha as 19 May 1837 and John as 9 March 1822. Family search gives me a marriage date of 20 March 1790 East Denham, Norfolk.
Please can anyone help me further with finding out any more info on John and Tabitha. Would love to get back further than the marriage and find John and Tabithas christening or parents etc.
Any help very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Irene

It's frustrating not to be able to access baptism records for Mattishall and Litcham for the relevant period. I know there's no guarantee that's where they were born, but I'd like to be able to check it out.

Hi
Thank you for your reply. Yes please anything would help to try and locate John and Tabitha Adamsons birthplace, christening or parents names as we have come to a brickwall with these two. It would be fantastic if we could go back a little further.
Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you for your kindness.

Hi
Thanks for trying to find the christenings for me. Unfortunately I do not have a subscription to ancestry. I did have one a while back which expired but when I looked at renewing they have put their prices up very expensive. Unfortunately with the exchange rate it is a bit difficult for me to be able to renew again but would like to try another sub sometime down the line.
Maybe there is someone with an ancestry sub who could look at the trees for me.
Thanks again for the info. I appreciate it and look forward to hearing from you again.

The public trees on Ancestry can be viewed for free on Mundia while it's in the beta phase, as they are both owned by Ancestry.
(though martynsue said there was a problem with the Mundia site today)

The public trees on Ancestry have hit the same brick wall as you, and one had Tabitha Burroughs as both married to, and fathered by, John Adamson...!!!!!
Children, whom you probably already have, are listed as Catherine, John, James, Maria, Ralph, Thomas, William and Tabitha.

some people seem to have Tabitha's parent's as john burroughs & Elizabeth.
I have been looking at the Norfolk record's and found this one, it is in the right time frame but I am not saying these are her parent's.
john burroughs & Elizabeth Fairchild. 20 june 1756. st George tombland. Norwich.
also someone has Tabitha burroughs 1762 in there tree,no place of birth recorded but maybe you could send a personal message to them, you never know they may have some info.
I still cannot find Tabitha's birth,

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_KINGDOM_IRELAND FS's main collections are: England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991 England Marriages, 1538–1973
However, there's fair number of other sets for Norfolk - most are unindexed, or at best, partly indexed. Try a search first, before resorting to browsing the images - check out the following paths: England, Norfolk Parish Registers, 1538-1900 > Litcham > Marriages > 1768-1799 > Image 11 of 15
England, Norfolk Parish Registers, 1538-1900 > Litcham > Index to Baptisms > 1550-1809 > Image 147 of 179 [Not the original & I don't see a Tabitha, but there is a Charlotte bp 1/5/1764 d/o Joseph & Mary Dagless]
This path leads to original: England, Norfolk Parish Registers, 1538-1900 > Litcham > Baptisms, Marriages, Burials > 1714-1812 > Image 18 of 86 [In addition to Charlotte, there's Mary bp 2/8/1761 - there's a nice entry near top of LH page: Jermery, travelling Comedians, was bap'd April 2d 1758]
As you know, or at least could guess, the church made its own back-up copy of the parish registers. These were usually called the Bishop's Transcripts, although in Norfolk, one often comes across the Archdeacon's Transcripts. Note Gins post refers to: Church St Nicholas At Normally, I would expect Church St Nicholas AT, but that's how FreeREG does it for BTs/ATs.
England, Norfolk Archdeac...'s Transcripts, 1600-1812 > Norfolk > Mattishall > 1726-1812 > Baptisms, Marriages, Burials > Image 22 of 112 [I don't see any 1760 Adamson]
