James Williams and his brother Benjamin Williams - my great grandfather and his brother were born there in 1851 and 1858. Does anyone know where Sandy Hole is? I know their father was Benjamin Williams ( his name is on my g.grandfather's marriage certificate)........but then I'm stuck!! |

I can't find any trace of this place in Radnorshire. Could it be the name of a house? |

Radnorshire, Sandy Hole is listed on the 1881 census as birth place for both James and his brother Benjamin. |

I see in the 1901 and 1911 James Williams he is listed as being born in Brampton, Radnorshire. Does that make sense? Could there be a Sandy Hole near a place called Brampton? |

I can see no births registered for the boys under those names and no marriage for a Benjamin Williams to a Hannah Tedds? |

I did find the census for 1861 where there was a Benjamin Williams but he was born in Abbeycwmhir, Radnorshire, Wales. I did not know if this was near the Sandy Hole listed on the 1881 census. |

Presteigne (/pr?s'ti?n/; Welsh: Llanandras (the church of St. Andrew)) is a town and community in Powys, Wales. It was the county town of the historic county of Radnorshire. Despite lying on a minor B road the town has, in common with several other towns close to the Wales-England border, assumed the motto, "Gateway to Wales". |
