Terrance's death notice at the Legion's Last Post site:

https://legionmagazine.com/en/last-post/?mode=entry&id=153346

Lance-Corporal Terrance M. TITUS
Date Deceased: November 1st, 1994
Age: 75

Service Information
Rank: Lance-Corporal
Unit: Royal Canadian Army Service Corps
Period of Service: World War II
Service Numbers: A9039

Legion Branch Information
Legion Branch: Caradoc Branch, Mount Brydges, Ontario, Canada
Legion Title: Life member

You might find that the Legion would be helpful in passing contact info to a family member, if there are members remaining who knew Terrance.

https://www.facebook.com/RCL251/

2500 Veterans Drive
Mount Brydges, Ontario N0L1W0
(519) 264-1580

Friday night's post:
"Legion is closed. Friday Night Darts is cancelled. Due to the weather. Stay home and watch Team Canada play in the gold metal game."
:-)

You can send a message via Facebook. (I'd make it brief with your email address, so as not to get stuck in Facebook's messaging thing!)

Strathroy and Mt Brydges are both small towns outside London, Ontario -- if Terrance and Eilene had children, they would most likely be in London or another larger centre.

... However, there are 2 Titus listings in Strathroy at present, and they must be fairly closely related at least:

http://www.canada411.ca/search/?stype=si&what=titus&where=London%2C+ON

(last two in the list)

It does look as if whoever wrote Vera Hamilton's obit just listed the sisters, and assumed they were all still alive.

But the suggestion still stands - the funeral home could maybe put you in touch with the family.

You saw the info about the Legion, Eileen ... ?

Just for info, this is the inscription on Terrance's headstone:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/185099130/terrence-micheal-titus

Terrence Micheal Titus (yes, all spelt that way)
1919-1994

This is him with his family in the 1921 census (free to search at Ancestry)

Charles Fatus 44 laborer
May Fatus 37
Cecilia Fatus 13
Patrick Fatus 10
Clarence Fatus 7
Ruth Fatus 4
Terrence Fatus 2

(Ancestry's transcriptions of Canadian censuses are about as bad as it gets.)

In Woodstock, another town close to Ingersoll, near London.

I would try finding marriages for siblings, but I am so tired of getting familysearch's
"We are unable to display search results due to technical difficulties. Please try searching again in a few minutes."
yet again that I might throw my monitor through a window the next time.

FindAGrave has a memorial for a Charles born 1903 buried in Ingersoll who I would suspect is an older brother,
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/180449887/charles-henry-titus

No; a different one -- familysearch finally responds.

1911 census:

Charles Titus Head M 35 Ontario
May Titus Wife F 33 Ontario
Maud Titus Daughter F 3 Ontario
Charles Titus Son M 0 Ontario (born Charles Kennedy Titus)

Cecilia married Joseph Edgar Beswarick, 1925. For the rest, no luck.

Ah interesting, and tragic, a week before first wedding anniversary.

Cecilia's husband was actually named Edgar Joseph Beswarick at birth. There are records of an Edgar Beswarick in a 1946 crew list in Minnesota, Duluth and Wisconsin, Superior Crew Lists on the Viscount Bennett (so obviously a Canadian vessel).

I wonder whether Patrick also worked on the Great Lakes. And whether the sinking was newsworthy. Ancestry shows only 4 other deaths on that date, 3 women and 1 man, but I can't see details.

The "Hibou" was a car ferry which also carried cargo.
Patrick's not listed as a crew member, so presumably was a passenger.

Until I get my Ancestry sub renewed, anybody want to look at these results on the Canada voters' lists?

https://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=2983
or
https://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=2983

depending on where your sub is

Terrance Titus 1958 Middlesex, Ontario
Terrance Titus 1972 Middlesex, Ontario
Terrence Titus 1965 Middlesex, Ontario
Terrence Titus 1957 Middlesex, Ontario

It's possible that there would be a voting-aged adult child in the household in 1972 (the last available).

Eileen

Eileen Report 9 Jan 2018 09:11

Thank you Joonie. I couldn't chat with Val yesterday as she was out but she's phoning me today. The info I'm really looking for is any clues to Terrence and Eilene's children - the nearest of which seems to have been the Voters ref 1972 posted by ArgyllGran which names likely sons Charles and Ronald. The address is RRI Mt Bridges, which after I googled it, turns out to be Rangeland Research Institute.

Eileen

Eileen Report 9 Jan 2018 09:17

I also would love to know when Terrence and Eilene married. Val says she doesn't know the year of her parents divorce. I will try to find in the uk records.
