I have never tried to go back as far as John Jones parents/siblings, he may have had brothers/sisters.

Deborah

Deborah Report 10 Jan 2020 16:38

Yes, you could have a point there, I have had the exact same thing happen in another part of my family tree, it was caused by the Mother died, and the sister took the child on as her own, but yes, that is a possibility.

sorry i mean't could lewis's mother be a sister of the john who was lewis's father in the census and john and elizabeth took him in as their son

just a thought

Maddie in your "more experienced than me opinion" do you think they are one and the same, because I do.

I think he was the illegitimate child of Enoch and Elizabeth. From what you put above, they lived in different places.

It would explain a lot.

Those 2 GRO entries you found, he could have been registered twice, under both names, I have seen that before. Maybe I should order both PDF's

I didn't find a baptism for John. Could easily have missed it, will look later, but I think John was Lewis's brother. Elizabeth, to the best of my knowledge mmn was Thomas,

When I first started looking I thought the occupation of Hatter was rare, but from browsing the census's it is quite a common occupation.

Maddie

Maddie Report 10 Jan 2020 14:41

haven't found an ench on the cen maybe just coincidencesus as a shoemaker but found one with wife mary as a hatter, maybe just a coincidence

Deborah

Deborah Report 10 Jan 2020 14:19

Possibly took both surnames to make it Lewis Jones. If he was illegitimate.

Its only a theory.

Deborah

Deborah Report 10 Jan 2020 14:14

Interesting you should find that one, because I was just searching for all the siblings of John and Elizabeth Jones, and what came up for Lewis Jones (if he is the one) was Lewis Jones, baptised 15th April 1838, illegitimate son of Enoch Lewis Shoemaker, and Elizabeth Jones, and Elizabeth's abode is Trerddole.

Am beginning to wonder if he is one and the same, and that maybe that is why I could to find him.

All the other siblings parents are stated as John and Elizabeth Jones of Trerddole, with John as a Hatter, expect for John Jnr. 1836, cant find him yet.

I know he was married to Eleanor Humphreys, and Ruth Evans before that, I have both marriage certificates, but its his birth record and first marriage that I just cant prove. Its been the biggest brick wall I have ever had.

Deborah Report 10 Jan 2020 12:37

Thats the one, thank you Maddie.

I am hoping it will lead me to her Brother Lewis Jones, my GG Grandfather, whose baptism I just cant find anywhere, and just now I found a possible baptism record for a Lewis Jones 15th April 1938 stating Lewis as the illegitimate son of Enoch Lewis and Elizabeth, Enoch is a shoemaker, the address is also Treddole. I just don't know where to go from here.

Thank you for finding it for me, much appreciated.

I know this thread regarding my Great Grandfather Lewis Jones (1839 Llancynfelin) has been going on for a while, but I think I have now found a sister for him. A Margaret Jones, baptised 4 Nov 1840, at Llancynfelyn, Cardigan, Wales. Same place Lewis was born. Parents are stated as John and Elizabeth Jones, same as Lewis's.

John Jones was a Hatter.

I found this entry on Ancestry, film number 105175 and was hoping to see it on FMP so I could maybe view the actual record but I cannott see it on there. Ancestry do not provide an image.

Could you please have a quick look to see if you can find an image for me, somewhere

Ok AG, thank you, I made extensive searches to and couldn't find one. I will order a PDF birth certificate.

Thank you for looking anyway.
