Born 1848 South Shields, bapt St Hildas.1851 census Westoe with family. Has gained a number of certs for sailing, the latest I've found 1873 Masters cert.
I appear to have a marriage, but not sure about it.

Thank you everyone. Very helpful. Sarah Wilson was my ggrandma, I have a photo of her, she lived to be 91 or so.

The father James Wilson is a bit of a mystery, though he was a solicitor he doesn;t seem to have a will. I cannot properly identify his parents either.

I have lots of info about James's wife Winifred McDonald and her ancestry.

The fact that you can’t find a Will for James online doesn’t necessarily mean there wasn’t one, merely that it didn’t go to Probate.

The "Margaret" was wrecked in the Bay of Biscay on 29/11/1877.

16 men drowned that day (per Ancestry), and apparently others died the following day or later.

Charles oldest brother was William Preston Wilson. He was baptised 26.3.1828 at St Hilda's South Shields.
I have him up to the 1851 census, he was a bank clerk.

Can anyone find anything else more up to date about him please?

Thanks, I do have notes about these.

His sis and brother emigrated to Australia, and a 'cousin' from there has William dying in a riding accident or somesuch, so I'm just checking through all my records again just in case.

So we've found several other Wilsons who may be related. A number of records give residences of East King St, South Shields, some at 28, some at 29, but we believe these families to be related.
The family at no 29 seem to have lived there for many years, at least from 1811 to 1847. The family at no 28 came a bit later.

Is anyone here able to see the original censuses for 1841 and 51 for both addresses please? Also I need to establish the relationships of the families.

What are the first names of these Wilsons, please? That would make it easier to find them, potentially.

However, having said that, in 1841 there is East Street and there's King Street, following each other on the census record, and no house numbers for either of them. No East King Street, as far as I can see.

All the addresses I have say East King St. Needless to say, the Wilsons use the same names....

For instance, I have Sarah W, relict of Samuel Wilson died in 1847 at the home of her son in law William Wilson on East King St.. We think that William Wilson is another family, he married Mary, James' sister.
And in 1851 census James Wilson lived at 29 East King St with his family, as listed above.

The enumerator seems to have only written the house number for a few of the households.
The one between 28 and 30 isn't numbered, but I assume it's 29.
