What I havnt found yet though is Amelia Smith, have found her in 1891 with Robert and Sarah age 9, Victoria St?? Bordesley, Aston. Piece 2412, Folio 53, but cant find her before that in 1881. She was born 2nd December 1881.

The 1881 census took place on 3rd April 1881 and Amelia was not born until the december of that year so was not on the census.

I have posted the 1881 census for her parents Richard and Sarah Smith (nee Barnett) showing the birth registrations for 3 of the children with mother's maiden name Barnett on page 2 (22nd May at 16.21 ) and have also followed both the Barnett line and Smith line back for you but did add a lot of info after originally posting the replies, so might be worth another read.

Kind regards
Tiggit

I had found Richard on the 1891 census, and saw Alice Ann Rushton on it, didnt think any more of it. Traced Richard right back to 1871, age 2, with his parents, it didnt help that there were mistakes in the spelling, Coley, Colley, Boley, took me quite a while.Thank you for filling in the rest.

What I havnt found yet though is Amelia Smith, have found her in 1891 with Robert and Sarah age 9, Victoria St?? Bordesley, Aston. Piece 2412, Folio 53, but cant find her before that in 1881. She was born 2nd December 1881.

The other bit I am stuck on, is that she married John Drinnan in 1908, he died in WW1 in 1915. She the married a William Barson in 1920 Cant find that marriage either, but she seems to keep changing her name, my relative is trying to find the marriage certificate, and also she thinks Amelia had about 13 children, have only accounted for 7.

Deborah

Deborah Report 25 May 2019 11:16

That could well be Richard Colleys death in 1907, it would explain why she then married John Drinnan in 1908.

Thank you for finding Richard Colleys marriage to Alice Ann Rushton.

And John Drinnan was a friend of Richard Colley. ( Its my guess that Richard Colley is where the extra name of Colley keeps coming up).

Is this Richard Colleys death in 1907?

Deaths Dec 1907
COLLEY Richard aged 37 Foleshill 6d 287

Amelia was living with Richard Colley (married man) in 1901 and as she gives her children the middle name Colley he was most likely the father of these children but couldn't marry Amelia as he was already married.

Oh dear that is sad. I bet they dont know about that.

Yes they do mention Bury quite a bit.

Dont want to mention names as they are still alive (obviously they are as I am talking to them) dont want to get into trouble on GR for giving away information I shouldnt.

I will phone my relatives tomorrow, to find out about the marriage certificates, they also told me today that Amelia had 13 children, and that she ran a Post Office in Radcliffe, she was Post mistress.

John Drinnan died in WW1, in I think 1915.

And John Drinnan was a friend of Richard Colley. ( Its my guess that Richard Colley is where the extra name of Colley keeps coming up).

Olive Beatrice is the mother of my relative.

Deborah

Deborah Report 22 May 2019 17:08

I think we may have the 1908 one, so possibly the other one, as my relative told me today about the name Willett on it and the fact that she had put herself down as a spinster and that by 1908 she had a few children, we thought it may be because she maybe pretended to be married to Willett so it looked better.

We may have the 1920 certificate, I could make a phone call tomorrow to find out.

Rambling Report 22 May 2019 17:06

there are 2 births following marriage in 1920 giving mmn as Willetts, (discount the one in 1927 giving Smith as mmn as that appears to be to a couple married 1924)
