Rhoda Hepper mum nee Chamberlain born June QTR 1876 St Olave V01d P275

The one born 1888 had mum nee Welsh.

Maybe Rhoda was too young to marry when she had first child and then they just never got round to it.

There was another daughter born to Thomas Hepper and Emily Elizabeth nee Chamberlain, her names was Adelaide Maria born 1882 and like Rhoda who I found was just named Rhoda mm Chamberlain was not on the 1891 census, found no death for Adelaide Maria however I did find a marriage in 1900 and a witness was Rhoda Adelaide Barnes, Wonder if Rhoda just called herself Adelaide . Just can’t find Rhoda or younger sister Adelaide in the 1891 census, seems so strange not to find either of them,

John

John Report 20 Jul 2019 20:04

I have found the following. After looking at the 1911 census I found Thomas Hepper b1852 was a widower and one of his children daughter Emily Hepper listed as Slater age 24 was a widow. Upon looking for a marriage for her I found she had married a Edward George Barnes widower on 15th Feb 1912 , His father named Thomas Barnes Ships fireman. Emily obviously the sister of Rhoda who died in 1911. Emily must have died because Edward George Barnes went on to marry Amelia Augusta Bodfield.. now what has completely thrown me. I looked up a marriage for a Rhoda Adelaide and came up with one named Blackmore who married a Thomas Morse but it was in Bristol 1892, it was mention above that Rhoda was not on the 1891 census. I notice on the marriage certificate for Edward George Barnes and Emily Slater nee Hepper in 1912 one of the witnesses was a Mary Morse. As yet not looked for a marriage of a possible Rhoda Morse to Edward G Barnes , unless she never got a divorce. All very interesting

Had found the marriage in 1922 of Edward George Barnes but nothing between Rhoda A Hepper and him, can only think one of them was married so no divorce possible.

Well, he wasn't yet 'at sea' but the rest of his family was so it is very possible he would have followed the tradition:

Well this is Edward on 1939:

Edward G Barnes's life in 1939

First name(s) Last name(s) Birth year DOB Sex Occupation Marital status Schedule Schedule Sub Number

Francis G Barnes 1925 20 Sep 1925 Male At School Single 90 4

His birth date is September 1872 so this would likely be his birth:

BARNES, EDWARD GEORGE BARKER
GRO Reference: 1872 D Quarter in GREENWICH Volume 01D Page 812

Likely parents' marriage:

Therefore the one you found with mother Betsy is very likely to be him:

Many thanks for the info ArgyllGran, never realised the GRO site was free. Only used it to order Certs. I usually do follow up the records, after seeing them on trees but this family threw me.
