He was, hence my reference to his first wife in an earlier post and how come he sired 22 kids, marry more than once and marry a young second wife, she's still fertile well into her husband's old age.

Reading between the lines I think that Mary may have started out as a housekeeper to Michael after his first wife died. He seems to have been a bit of lad, as Mary had 3 children before they married, the fact that the baptisms register notes him as the reputed father for 2, with the other born between them indicates that the truth of their relationship was well known.

thats such a big age gape for michael and mary

I have at least one other case of a man marrying a much younger 2nd wife and continuing to father children into his 70's. As men don't have a menopause as such, if his wife is still in her fertile, why not?

I expect you have this, Julie

First name(s) Mary
Last name Haylock
Sex Female
Birth year -
Marriage year 1834
Marriage date 29 May 1834
Marriage place Rowston
Residence Rowston
Spouse's first name(s) Michael
Spouse's last name Butler
Spouse's residence Rowston
County Lincolnshire

I would question whether Michael was fathering children at the age of 75

That's why they were posted!

Julie

Julie Report 26 Jul 2019 11:38

The Scampton census is not the same family as mine - Jane's parents are Michael and Mary. maylon's 1861census post is the right family. What the 2 census posts demonstrate I think is that the Jane Butler buried at Scampton is a different Jane Butler.

If you refer back to my post I have included the census details for the Butler family in Scampton.

Julie

Julie Report 26 Jul 2019 11:31

Scampton may not be far from Lincoln, but as a burial place it doesn't tie in when the family lived in Rowston.
