Sylann Report 9 Oct 2019 13:46

Hi
Sorry I've been doing my tree for years but I've never managed to grasp how to get a census with an address
I have a William Thomas Earley getting married in 1880 at St Andrew Manchester he is 20 address 29 Brown St
Marring Elizabeth Cook 18 of 27 Brown St
Think William Thomas was Illegitimate as no father on his birth or on his Marriage certificate his mother is down as Ann ?

Could some one find Brown St 1881 think it could be in the Ardwick area as Thomas & Elizabeth are their in 1881

Thank you

Maddie

Thanks Chris I've just been looking at the baptism om Lancashire...…..
The first bit is means William I've seen that before but it's the next bit fillius Georgii Howel & Hannae does that mean his parents??

It would seem we have Earley-Hurley now Howley could they be transcription errors but then Corby in the margin?

Chris Ho :)

Chris Ho :) Report 9 Oct 2019 16:35

Would get the Birth Cert., see what it says, also address...

Chris :)

Edits
(your reference to his Mother down as Ann, where is this from?, if the Birth Cert., what address is there)

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Oct 2019 16:41

Earley / Hurley / Howley are just variations depending on how the clerk thought it sounded and ought to be spelled.

If the family members were illiterate, they wouldn't know how to spell it in any case.

ArgyllGran Report 15 Oct 2019 12:13

I think that may be a different Lyons Court.

Patrick Connor's neighbour Elizabeth Manchester at 1 Lyons court is still there in 1871 and 1881.

Ardwick isn't mentioned on Elizabeth's records in any of those three census years

Elizabeth Manchester
in the 1881 England Census
Name: Elizabeth Manchester
Age: 75
Estimated birth year: abt 1806
Relationship to Head: Head
Gender: Female
Where born: Manchester, Lancashire, England
Civil Parish: Manchester
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Street address: 1 Lyons Court
Marital status: Widow
Occupation: Laundress
Registration district: Manchester
Sub registration district: St George

However, Ardwick is stated specifically in other people's records in 1861, 1871, and 1881.
For example only - picking one from each year, entirely at random:

Sarah Ellen Sowerby
in the 1861 England Census
Name: Sarah Ellen Sowerby

Estimated birth year: 1837
Where born: Salford, Lancashire, England

Ada Podmore
in the 1881 England Census

In order to see the surrounding streets, here's 5 Lyons Court, Ardwick, in1881:

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 15 Oct 2019 12:30

And here's 5 Lyons (spelled Lion) Court (next to Wright Street as in that 1881 record above) in 1861:

George Hailey
in the 1861 England Census
Name: George Hailey
Age: 38
Estimated birth year: 1823
Relation: Head
Spouse's name: Mary Hailey
Gender: Male
Where born: Ireland
Civil Parish: Ardwick
Ecclesiastical parish: St Silas
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Street address: 5 Lion Court
Registration district: Chorlton
Sub-registration district: Ardwick
ED, institution, or vessel: 15
Neighbors:

Could Hailey be yet another variation of the name?
