Where did ‘Charles’ come from? No second forename on the death registration

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 7 Mar 2020 13:52

Forces War Records website lists him, but you'd need a sub to see the details - and I can't say how much detail there would be:

With the right details about him, your friend could apply for a copy of his service record.

Info here on how to do it:

It will cost £30, and may take several weeks, if not months, to arrive.

'Southern Ireland' as such didn't exist until after partition. It was one country prior to May 1921

This is the only birth I can see between the relevant dates as per death age

Birth of CHRISTOPHER MC NAMARA on 04 January 1916
Group Registration ID 1361130
SR District/Reg Area Limerick
Sex Male
Mother's Birth Surname MULLINS

No birth for a Kevin in Limerick

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 5 Mar 2020 14:39

He was born between 11/12/15 and 10/12/16

See the death record I posted, and assume age at death is accurate,

However............. that may not be so, as he was allegedly 23 in 1944

Can't both be right!

There are 16 births in Ireland for the name Christopher McNamara in 1916 +/- 2 years. Has your friend any idea if her dad had a middle name or whereabouts in Ireland he was born?

Look here for a start

And here

You will not be able to find info without buying certs, unless your 'friend' knows Christopher's mother's name
