Hi
I'm on ancestry and the 1851 census for William Crosby aged 56 in Ardwick Manchester isn't that good water damaged wonder if any one has access to another site that is better I'm after what William did I can make out Dryer his wife is Ann not sure how old she is but I think it's his second marriage as I have a marriage to Ann Hughes 1835 so the all children aren't hers I think the eldest is a Henry born 1821c

Thank you

When Henry Crosby married in 1860, father William was a Gardener

What are you trying to find out

In 1841 and 1851, Henry was not living in the same house as William

I was hoping to go back further with William ? Think I'll have to find another way of trying to do it Thank you

ErikaH Report 28 Mar 2020 13:05

The IMAGE of the 1835 marriage is on Ancestry

William was a BACHELOR

So if you're connected through HENRY, you've perhaps latched on to the wrong father

Sylann

Sylann Report 28 Mar 2020 13:35

Yes I was thinking that William was a dryer in 1835 when Henry married for the first time the 1851 census looks as though he was …...dryer
Just noticed the 1851 census above So William was born in Ireland that's helpful and d of B is later as they have him 36 not 56 Oh Henry was born 1821c so it must have been 56 if that is his father ??
As for the marriage it possibly isn't the right one but I have had marriages brfore when they put bachelor and they are a widower?

Thanks I'll have a good look into this

Look again at Henry's 1845 marriage for correct occupation of his father

William was a labourer when he married in 1835.

The woman he married was Ann Hughes - I've posted births of some of their children as per 1851 census

Can't see them in 1841, with the exception of Henry, and I can't see a death for William

Sylann Report 28 Mar 2020 16:09

Thank you for that It does make you wonder if it is the right family when 1835 William is a labourer 1845 is a dryer 1860 a Gardener The births do fit I've checked the GRO but their is still Henry born 1821c Their is one 1818 parents William & Mary?

I'll carry on looking

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Mar 2020 16:21

He is a DYER on Henry's 1845 marriage cert..........not a DRYER!!!!!!!!!!

The marriage cert is on Ancestry - look at it

Sylann

Sylann Report 28 Mar 2020 16:34

Sorry Yes your right I just had Dryer in my mind but I have put Dyer on my tree
Just looked at my other tree I did year ago and I have that William married a Ann Rushton in Toxteth 1825 ?? don't know where that came from and still doesn't match Henry's birth and their is no telling it's right

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Mar 2020 16:38

Unless you can find a baptism for Henry, you may never get a definitive answer

He gives his birthplace as Manchester on every census which records the info
