IF the DOB given in 1939 is accurate - but may well not be - there's no death of a Lilian/Lillian Smith anywhere in Lancashire 1939-42 of an age which would fit that.

They did travel around a lot, so could have been anywhere after 1939.

Deaths (not in Lancs) which could fit:

Deaths Sep 1940 (>99%)
Smith Lilian 41 Wednesbury 6b 1350

Deaths Jun 1941 (>99%)
Smith Lilian 41 Staincross 9c 538

Or in Lancs, but if later than thought:

Deaths Mar 1944 (>99%)
Smith Lilian 44 Bury 8c 507

However, there's no matching birth of a child, if she did die in childbirth - though of course she may have died soon after but perhaps not in the same place or quarter.

A child registered initially as Betty and then altered to Sheila E was born in Cumberland (Border RD) in Dec qr 1943.
No idea if relevant. No immediately obvious marriage of parents - at least not in Cumberland.

My Aunt said she died when Teresa b.March 1938 was age 2/3 and they think in childbirth I know in 1939 they were in Rochdale Lancashire.

I have managed to get a copy of Margaret Ellen Smith's birth cert 2/4/1937 Chorley Lancs and Lilian still put an X as signature and William was still a general Hawker.

Do you know exact year Lilian died. and where?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 10 Jun 2020 00:09

I hope your cat recovers well, Joanie.

You said that William and Lilian's DOB's were the same apart from year.
No, not quite.
William's is 26 July, and Lilian's is 24 July.

Years of birth are quite often wrong on the 1939 Register, but days and months tend to be more often correct.
However, it's possible as you suggest, that one or both of them weren't sure what their DOB was. Lilian was obviously illiterate.

Sorry I was not on earlier Folks but our old cat 16 was attacked by three Staffordshire terriers and we have been to vets and looking after her......she is as well as can be expected god bless her x

Joanie Report 9 Jun 2020 23:08

The three certs I have got are : James first born this is correct....second was Teresa born Nelson this was not her...third was Marriage William H Smith and Elizabeth E Heslop this was not them....Teresa Smith married Gerard Huskisson.

When looking on the 1939 register William and Lilian have same birthday except year and Teresa’ s isn’t right according to her daughter. On James birth certificate it says Lilian made her mark X, maybe she wasn’t good with writing and numbers and gave wrong ones in ?

That's a bit random, Malyon, I fear.

The parents of that child:

Marriages Dec 1925 (>99%)
Heslop William Tempest Haslingden 8e 237
Tempest Harriet J Heslop Haslingden 8e 237

They're together in 1939 , in Bacup, with daughters Catherine and Mary, and three closed records

Margaret's birth in 1937 was definitely MMN Hesslop - and Joanie clearly stated that Lilian died in the 1940's

I thought Joanie said at some stage that the MMN was wrongly recorded on Teresa's birth reg'n. Perhaps she deleted that snippet - or edited it. Or I need to go to Specsavers

This is her death - mentioned before, I know!
