Henry Green is an incredibly common name

Thanks everyone, some interesting info.
I do think it's strange though that I found a marriage for a Henry Green married to Elizabeth Genion 8 April 1800, parents of Mary Green b. 2 April 1801. I think this is a different family than mine. Why - because I have my Henry and Mary marrying 2 January 1809 - or am I missing something here?

When did Jenion marry Tipping? Do you have the cert?

Why does the 1800 marriage seem ‘weird’?

Yvonne

Yvonne Report 29 Jul 2021 00:09

I've been trying to do some follow-up on this family and have got myself more confused than ever.

My direct line is Mary Jenion married to William Tipping and I'm trying to go further back with the Jenions.
Mary's parents were William Jenion and Jane Cowley.
William's parents were Henry Jenion and Mary Green.

In 1841 census William is lodging with a Green family, as shown in this thread. The head of the Green family is shown as William age 35, a paviour, and William Jenion as an apprentice paviour. Could William Green be William Jenion's uncle, brother of his mother? Found a birth for Mary for 2 April 1801 with parents Henry and Elizabeth. Then I found a marriage for Henry Green and Elizabeth Genion for 8 April 1800 in Liverpool. This seems weird to me.

Until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births.

Your Thomas 1839 may simply not have been registered

Although, the other possible scenario is that Henry, the Pavior, was his grandfather, but named as father when Thomas married to save face. OR - Thomas didn't know he wasn't actually Henry's son

Which would mean that the birth cert IS the right child

As far as the surname in 1841 census is concerned, you said yourself that the name is spelled many different ways.
It depends on how the enumerator thought it should be spelled, and also on what the transcriber could make of the often bad handwriting.

I think we are sure that the 1841 with Henry's occupation as pavior is the correct one, even though Ancestry and FMP have transcribed it with two different spellings, as in the two versions we've posted.

Even though Henry's occupation is shown as labourer on the marriage record, I can only see one Margaret Jenion or similar in Huyton with father Henry in 1841.

The Worshipful Company of Paviors is London-orientated. I doubt if they would have any records relating to Lancashire.
