Not rude - realistic.
One needs an open mind for this pastime......

I posted a marriage which you didn’t even stop to consider as a possibility..............

Are you still saying that the marriage isn’t your relative?

This is the birth record for Samuel's daughter Elizabeth - already posted, but repeating for ease of reference:

SMITH, ELIZABETH AMELIA ( mms BARBER )
GRO Reference: 1854 S Quarter in MANCHESTER Volume 08D Page 193

There is no birth for an Elizabeth Ann Smith in Manchester with mms Barber.

There was an Elizabeth Ann Smith born in Manchester in 1854, but her mms was Loftus.

SMITH, ELIZABETH ANN ( mms LOFTUS )
GRO Reference: 1854 S Quarter in MANCHESTER Volume 08D Page 261

London Road is certainly a street in Manchester, but it's also a sub-registration district.

The 1861 census record for Samuel and family, already posted on page 1, is from FMP, and doesn't show the sug-reg district.
Here is the Ancestry version, which does:

i don't normally pay much attention to the witnesses on a marriage certificate ,but last night i did for some reason and there was an Elizabeth Ann Barber jumping out at me...on my gt grandads Benjamin' Hackett's marriage to Florence Edith Barber in 1902 at Christ Church Salford
I am hoping and wishing that she is Samuel'and Mary's Daughter....i

Is this not your Mary Ellen?

1891 6,Beech Street Broughton nr Salford
Edward Harrison
Esther Harrison (nee Smith) ?
Elizabeth Smith 1855 general servant born Ardwick
Mary E Smith 33 envolope maker born Ardwick (she was envolope maker in 1881 with Ann Smith sister)

So if the above is Mary Ellen age 33 how could she have died age 26.

Elizabeth Ann smith with MMN Barber 1854 London road...This is the one i have ;Taken from LANCASHIRE BMD

ArgyllGran Report 29 Sep 2020 14:54

Thanks for posting documentary backup.

However, in that case, either LancsBMD or GRO has the wrong name.
Perhaps whoever transcribed from the original handwritten index (viewable on FreeBMD) got mixed up.

She certainly married as Elizabeth Amelia.

As there is no birth record on GRO for Elizabeth Ann (mms Barber) - and no Elizabeth Amelia (mms Barber) on LancsBMD - Elizabeth Amelia's birth cert is the one you would have to buy to prove it one way or the other.

Mary Ellen is a lot harder to find - maybe impossible.
There are loads of Mary Ellen or Mary E Smith marriages and deaths which could be hers, in and around Manchester area..
