Unless you have a copy of the marriage cert, not sure how you can hope to identify the right Goodwin as he isn’t with Thirza in 1911

Virginia

Virginia Report 19 Oct 2023 18:33

That right Jack's step mother Thirza had been married before to a William Henry Goodwin. I have looked up this both in the surames Howell and Goodwin. The other interesting things is that I have never traced the birth and death of William Henry Goodwin which might suggest that she was still married to him when she met Joseph John Taylor.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 19 Oct 2023 10:16

As a matter of interest, the DoB on her death reg isn’t accurate. Her birth was registered OND 1887

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 19 Oct 2023 09:37

‘Saying’ she was his wife doesn’t mean she actually was

She was married in 1905 to William Henry Goodwin, so any marriage to Taylor would not have been in her maiden name

Having said that, I can’t see one,

Virginia

Virginia Report 19 Oct 2023 08:23

Jack's mother passed away and his father married Thirza Elizabeth Howell. However, I have never found the date and place of that married. However, when Thirza died she had the surname Taylor and the informant was her husband and it said she was his wife. From 1921 I have not found a trace of Jack Taylor but Taylor and names like Jack and John are very common.

Virginia

Virginia Report 17 Oct 2023 07:28

The person has a John Taylor in their tree. They also have a Charles Edward Taylor in their tree that is Jack/John's half brother that I am looking for the same missing information.

Sorry for the confusion.

Industrial schools usually trained their pupils to work in specific areas and in this case could well be farming.
Virginia really does need to contact Kent History & Library centre ( as I suggested this morning ) to see if they have any record of Jack.

Virginia -
the child named John in the 1911 census is definitely Jack.
We know that because of the names of his parents and siblings.

In later life (after the 1921 census, when he's called Jack) he may have been known as either Jack or John.
So far, we haven't found definite records for him after that, as there are lots of Jack or John Taylors.

EDIT:
Oh, I see. I think I misunderstood your last post.
You mean that the person you have messaged has both John, and Jack's half-brother, in her tree.

Virginia

Virginia Report 16 Oct 2023 18:05

I done a search for John Taylor in the family trees a person has also got a name for his half brother and I messaged her earlier today on that so I have sent a message to see if John/Jack might be the sameperson.

nameslessone Report 16 Oct 2023 16:18

Doesn’t change the fact that he was registered as Jack.
