In that case it may well be the Barton upon Irwell birth.

The parents could have returned to England for the birth.

They are not on the 1911 census, and no trace of Albert’s birth in England

The 1908 birth cert would confirm - or otherwise.

If Joseph and Emily were Edna's parents, it seems likely that she was born in South Africa - not Manchester.

If you're trying to prove a connection between Abbot and an unnamed person who died in 1861, shouldn't you be researching that person's descendants? Or have I misunderstood your opening post?

Why do you imagine that the mother dying would affect the surname of her offspring? Or was she unmarried?

It seems that the only definite facts you have about Edna are that she married Thomas in South Africa in 1932, and died in Johannesburg in 1983.


I assume the DOB, and the mention of the supposed brother Albert are from your contact?
Does that person have documentary proof?

Edna's birthplace of Manchester also seems unproven.


I haven't been able to track the Edna Wood registered in Barton upon Irwell.

I've said I've got the snip its from the person who is supposed to be my 2/3 cousin and things that I " have " found out No I've not been able to pin point a birth for Edna and not found one for her brother

So as I said I'm giving up
