Find Ancestors

I am trying to find Robert Chick in the 1881 and 1891 censuses. I have had no success after looking for quite some time and hoped that you may be able to help me please.
Robert was born in Southampton on the 12th May 1865.
His father James Chick died in 1864 before his son's birth. His Mother Grace Chick nee Mitchell died in 1874. Both deaths in Southampton. Grace and children James, Isabella and Robert were in Southampton on the 1871 census. The next document I can find is the marriage for Robert Chick to Eliza Mary Norton formerly Yates on the 9th Feb 1896 in Fulham.

I've been squinting at the small blurred image on Ancestry, only viewable properly on Fold3, trying to make it out.
I could see mention of Fulham, so thought it might be relevant.

His NOK is sister listed as Mrs Fairchild at Fulham Road

Don't see a Chick / Fairchild marriage.

His sister Isabella married John Benjamin Butler in 1884 , but died in 1885, so the NOK sister isn't her.

Another sister, Agnes, was born in 1861, but died in 1864.

The trial was for desertion, and resulted in imprisonment. He joined up in 1887

In the 1861 census there's a Caroline Cooper , aged 11, with James and Grace, described as "daughter-in-law" which would mean step-daughter of James.

There's also a James Chick in that household - maybe some relative ???

Although the census gives his birthplace as London, Ancestry suggests he's James Charles Chick, born on the Isle of Wight. Parents Charles Chick and Margaret Joliffe.

Hi Again

There is really just one thing that I would like to know and that is what happened to Robert Chick's son also named Robert. He was born on the 7th March 1898 in Fulham. He married Florence Agnes Alderson on the 25th December 1921 in Fulham. On the 1939 Register Florence A Chick appears as married with two of their children Denis A Chick and James Chick but no husband James. The last birth of a child I can find for them was Benjamin J Chick born in 1938 I have spoken with my relative born in 1957 who was the grandson of James who says that he presumed he had died before his birth as he has no recollection of him. Frustratingly there is noone remaining in the family that knows and I am unable to see a death record. Can anyone see if they can help with a death for James?
