Hi
I have reached a point in my research and have been unable to progress. Hoping you might be able to assist please. The oldest document I have is the marriage certificate for John Beck and Eliza Henzell dated 25th August 1851 at the church of St Hilda in the Parish of St Hilda in Durham. Both of full age. John being a Miner. His father also John Beck a Gentleman. Place of Residence St Hilda. Eliza's place of Residence South Shields. Witnesses Mary Ann Stobbs and J Harrison.

The 1861 Census gives John Juniors birthplace as Newcastle. It is anything before the 1851 wedding that I am in need of if you can help please.

Thank you for looking :-)

Thank you again.
I have been trying to find a death for Jane on or around 1824. No luck as yet!

greyghost

greyghost Report 22 Mar 2025 15:35

The information will be from Parish Registers if pre q3 1837 as formal death registration wasn't begun until then. These are not always complete, readable or online unfortunately. Burials seem to be the least available online.

It may be worth you contacting the relevant Records Office.

The 2 online trees have no information about John and Jane or an Elizabeth.

The 1825 baptism for Elizabeth Henzel, posted at 14.29, can't be the right Elizabeth.

That child's father was Thomas, whereas John Beck's wife's father was William:

Hello greyghost

The 1841 census that you posted at 14:42 22nd March shows John through to Charlotte as being born in Scotland, Ireland or Foreign Parts.
So presumably either this census or John Junior being born c. 1824 in Newcastle is incorrect.
I have appreciated yours and everyone's help.
Thanks again
Dave
