	Decided to use credits to view the 1922 marriage cert 30th May W T Riddell, age 23 Father James Riddell, Farm Servant, deceased Mother Sarah , nee Duguid Maggie, age 20, mother Mary Welsh, later wife of James Lawrence, Farm Servant, deceased. Confirms illegitimacy, so, unless the birth cert gives more info, you can never trace her father's line. The stone also commemorates "Also his wife Maggie F Welsh who died at Lenshie Cottage 22nd June 1930, aged 28 years."

Member Since: May 2006 Posts: 7,280 Send Message	Not quite accurate nowadays to say you can’t trace a father’s line. If the OP really wanted to do that the he could take a dna test. He might not find the father but he should be able to see ‘the line’ as there would, with any luck, be a group of people he couldn’t place in a known tree.

Member Since: May 2006 Posts: 7,280 Send Message	‘DNA on,y works for blood relatives’ - obviously. The unknown father is a blood relative as are his siblings their children, his own parents and their siblings the their children and do on. These people would all be of the ‘fathers line’.

	Ian - you say Elma is in your tree. I'm confused. If she's in your tree, surely you know what the connection is. ADDED (24/6/25): I thought you meant you were looking for Elma's connection to you. However, on re-reading your opening post, I think you probably mean that you are looking for anyone alive now, as yet unknown to you, who also has a connection to Elma.
