Tracy No, unfortunately they apparently used to call him Donkey Spencer because he carted things about (I don't know what, furniture possibly?). I understand that he had a VERY small business in Nottingham. Thanks for your interest. I have to keep answering the phone - hence the late reply:)) Chrissie |

Do you know her fathers first name? |

Christine2 | Report | 23 Mar 2005 12:45 |
I'm trying to remember when Bulwell changed from Nottingham to Basford or visa versa. I can't seem to find the details that I have. I know that her father had a very small business in Nottingham though. So either could be right. Chrissie |

The only Martha Spencer I found was married, and the only Smiths I found weren't with Harry/Harold/Henry in 1901. |

Thanks very much Tracy and Jools and Sheila. She wasn't married before as her Fathers name was Spencer. The birth certificate I have for her 2nd child is born in Bulwell Nottingham and the few family memories that I can get all remember Bulwell as the family home. With the names being so common I don't know where they are in 1901 (married or not). The marriage certificate seems to be my only hope but I'm beginning to think that they didn't marry. I wonder why? Thank you very much for looking. Much appreciated. Chrissie |

Perhaps they didn't marry?? Are they missing on 1901?? Does place of birth for 1904 child give any clues?? |

I searched 1893 - 1910 for you, and couldn't find a Smith - Spencer marriage. I checked Harry and Henry. Is it possible that she married before Harry? Or not in Notts? |
