I have just gone on this site curious to find links to my Husbands Grandad Joseph Fegan from Liverpool. He left his wife Mary Fegan never to be seen and believed to have emigrated to Australia. . We believe he has a twin brother called William. Joseph had 4 children to Mary called Mary, Shirley, Dolores and Joseph (Peter) I will not be on this site for long as I have just registered for the free trial but you should be able to find me on face book Jackie Fegan

Hi Jackie and welcome to the boards.

Unfortunately Rachell's post is more than 15 years old so I doubt that she will see your reply.

You could try clicking on her name and sending a private message. However she would need to still have the email address that she registered with Genes for her to get a notification from them that she has a messages from you, but it is worth a try.

This is actually from the 'Service Register' and shows this person as being a 'Seaman':

View Liverpool, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1970

Name: Joseph Fegan
Residence Year: 1945
Street address: Pansy Street 16

He is at this same address with Mary this time in 1950.

When was he said to have left Mary and his children please?

The 1939 one looks like him

RFA oligarch was a royal fleet auxiliary vessel

For him to be an open record his death must have been picked up

There's no birth for a Joseph Fegan anywhere in England/Wales, April-Sept 1908.

There is, however, one in Birkenhead in Sept qr 1907, with a twin brother James;

I posted this, then deleted it, as not your Joseph, but now I'm reinstating it , for elimination if nothing else. I had thought the figures 6 and 9 in the DOB might have been transposed by mistake.

Re the Joseph and James born Birkenhead 1907 (just in case they're relevant) -
this is the family in 1911, although the ages of the children are mangled. To be fair, it's been written badly on the document:

Joseph Fegan
in the 1911 England Census
Name: Joseph Fegan
Age in 1911: 3
Estimated birth year: abt 1908

Jackie Report 2 Jul 2019 00:24

Thank you all. From what I read and other research this is what I know.....

Firstly the DOB of Joseph Fegan seems to vary but I know that can often be the case because alot of documents state About (ABT) So I expect some variants...

Joseph Fegan DOB 29/6/08
Married Mary Ramsey DOB 13/3/13 - Married April 1930
Had 4 children Mary, Shirley, Dolores, Joseph (Known as Peter) Dolores is the only one still alive. (Listed on Free BMD)
Believed within the family to have left the marital home Circa 1944. Also, believed to have gone to Australia to live at some point but not confirmed.
He seem to be listed on ships sailing records as late as 1950. He did work on ships definitely as a cook / baker.
Also seems to be living at 16 Pansy Street L5, Kirkdale, Liverpool and resident between 1945 - 1950 but left Mary and the children in 1944 so still in Liverpool 6 years later.
Previous addresses 7 Colwell or Caldwell Close Liverpool
1934-1935 Lambeth Road Liverpool
Death Cert for Mary 1985 is correct (I was at the funeral) !
Birth record for Birkenhead September quarter of 1907 with twin brother James. Some gravity to this as we did know Joseph had a twin brother so his name must be James.
1911 Census shows father of the twins, Joseph and James is also called Joseph Fegan and his wife is Margaret Mary Fegan

My aim is to try to locate the death cert of Joseph Fegan born 29/6/08 and as we know he definately re-married as a bigamist would like to find out if he had other children that may still be alive who possibly don't know they have relatives

KathleenBell Report 2 Jul 2019 00:37

There is this death in Australia with the correct name:-

First name(s) Peter Joseph
Last name Fegan
Birth year -
Death year 1991
Death date 27 Nov 1991
Cemetery Albany Creek Memorial Park
City Bridgeman Downs
State Queensland
Country Australia
Image link
Record set Australia Billion Graves Cemetery Index
Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
Subcategory Civil Deaths & Burials
Collections from Australasia

The record doesn't give his birth date but there is a link to a plaque which says:-

In memory of Lilian Gladys Fegan who passed away 9-10-71, age 77 years and:-

In memory of Peter Joseph Fegan who passed away 27-11-91 aged 84 years.

This would make his birth around 1908.

Wow Thank you Kath That is very interesting. This gives me more names. and if I an not mistaken a name of his 2nd wife. The only thing is that it says Peter Joseph. Not just Joseph. But then again people like to be called other names and middle names THANK YOU

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 2 Jul 2019 09:25

I just thought that might be him because in your post at 00.24 you give his name as Peter Joseph Fegan not just Joseph.

Kath. x

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 2 Jul 2019 10:26

Could this be his birth (the middle name of Joseph could have been added at his baptism):-

First name(s) PETER
Last name FEGAN
Birth year 1908
Birth quarter 2
Registration month -
Mother's maiden name - Kinsella
District Prescot
County Lancashire
Country England
Volume 8B
Page 795
Record set England & Wales Births 1837-2006
Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
Subcategory Civil Births
Collections from Great Britain, England

The only thing against this being the right person is that there doesn't seem to be a twin recorded at the same time (unless the twin was a still-birth).

If that does happen to be the right birth then this looks like him in the 1911 census with his parents and siblings:-
