Hi Rose,
Yes in 1901 Mary Ann was living with her parents in Bristol, she married just after in April 1901. I guess it's the 1911 census for me.

Many thanks

Mary

You could try looking for his baptism, otherwise you might need to wait until the 1911 census comes out to confirm his details.

Hi Portland Rose, Yes that's his parents marriage cert. don't know who the William John death index was, not mine and by the time he had died he had changed his name to John William just to confuse us more.

A very grateful Mary

Hi Lindy-Lou and Shirley, Yes Lindy I do have that cert. wrong mother I'm afraid. I did get in contact with my local GRO and they said the records were probably destroyed and to write off to Merseyside to the destoyed records office which I did but, no record, they searched England and Wales for me from 1900 to 1902 inclusive. It seems there's nowhere to go.

Many thanks

Can I just reinforce what Shirley has said.
I have a death cert from Staffordshire which isn't on the GRO index.

Hi Kath and Shirley,

I only have the information from my mother, unfortunately she never married my father so no marriage cert. to get information from. She was adamant it was the correct birth details but, obviously it wasn't. His mother was married in Bristol and his siblings were all born in Bristol. He is named on my brothers and sisters birth cert. I really have tried every which way with no luck.

Many thanks

FRC has only the same GRO refs and you order from there and the certs are sent from GRO Southport so it be a waste of your time..!!

As your dads siblings were reg then it would make sense his was too somewhere!!

Hi Stephanie, here goes. His name was William John Maggs and as far as I know he was born in Bristol in September 1901. I have his brother, sister and step brothers birth cert. and his mothers marriage cert. GRO say there is no record of a William Maggs being born at that time. I have also tried looking for William John King (his mothers maiden name) no luck there either. GRO have looked a 1900, 1901, 1902 for both Maggs and King and have returned my cheque as they can't find anything. Going to London was my last resort.

Many thanks

It's always worth putting up the details - someone may just find what you are looking for, and even if we don't, you haven't lost anything.

Hi Shirley,
Thanks for the info. Many people have tried to help me over the past 5 years but, no luck. I have 5 birth certs. which I thought may have been his, all wrong (got wise now and ask then GRO to check the mothers name first). So really it's a case of me looking at records but, if as you say it's being fazed out I don't know where to go. Guess I will have to give up.

Many thanks

Mary
The BMD records were transferred from Somerset House many moons ago . they are held at the Family Records Centre (FRC)Islington ,BUT they are being transfered to the National Archives and are being phased of being able to search.

Your best bet is to ask for a look up on here.
