My grandmother Emily Mary Ann Russell/ Nee Cripps married William Charles Russell, but no certificate appears anywhere as far as I know. She was born in 1885 and William was born in 1875.
We have a marriage certificate that he married in 1895 to Eliza Fossett, no further info on her. The death certificate for 1901 re Eliza is not her?

Any help?

when you can't find a marriage certificate and you know there was a previous marriage, it's quite possible there was no second marriage as first wife still alive. No easy divorce in those days.

Hello Sue,
Thank you for your input.
We had thoughts along those lines and I suspect you are right.
Because we remember her as a really good lady, perhaps we were ignoring the reality.
My Thanks
Judith
