If she was illegitimate, he birth would be registered in the mother's name, and if that name isn't known, you're not likely to be able to find anything

Isn't it more probable that she was the woman's child - taken in by her husband?

Have just looked at freebmd. NO records for the name Ralph Springhall........so how did you learn that he was allegedly born in Grimsby?

You have to buy the certs to find out who the mother was, but it would be far too expensive.
Between 1936 and 1943, there were 44 Galloway births in Edinburgh.

However, up to 2020, there were no deaths in Scotland of people named Galloway, with mms Hogg and born between 1936 and 1943, so it may be that there were no children.
That's not conclusive, of course. Any children may have died somewhere other than Scotland, or may still be alive.

Yes that would be Sarah’s grandmother . I’m going to write all this down tomorrow and try understand all this. Sarah lived with her dad and some “aunty” then dad got back together with her “ mum” Elizabeth but she would never give her her birth certificate .all she has is a short version of her birth certificate on so waiting till they back open to order . I really do appreciate all this help .?She is aged 76 now x x
