Hi, I am looking for a William John golsby born 4th nov 1888 (1939 war census ) Carshalton surrey. On his marriage cert it says his father is James.

With his parents names I am hoping I will then be able to find them on the free 1881 census.

This is what I thought as that is the only birth I can find on free BMD. But on his marriage cert it says John as his middle name.

Right so I've had a look at the 1901 image and daughter Millie 1887 is actually son Willie perhaps. Son has been crossed out and dau has been added. Age has then been moved from male to female column.

Don't take the DoB on 1939 register as 'gospel'. People often got birth info wrong, and the year was the one most often misquoted. The actual DAY fits with the registration qtr

And don't ignore the FACT that James was an Iron Moulder on ALL records posted so far
