Would someone have a look at a 1901 image for me – can’t distinguish occupation. The name is William H F Maddison, born abt 1865, living Darlington Yorkshire – think it says marine engineer, but would appreciate some confirmation, of anyone’s other thoughts. Have the image if anyone would like it mailed – just let me have the addy. Many thanks Looby

It looks to me like Mining Engineer. But it also says that he is an employer. Could he be a mine owner?? Dianne xx

I thought it said a m..ing engineer so I looked at 1891 and he's a mining engineer. What do you think?

Try the Durham Mining Museum's site. It might give some clues. http://www(,)dmm(.)org(.)uk Dianne xx

Looby on the official 1901 census they have transcribed his occupation as Mining Engineer. On the 1891 census he is a Mining Engineer. Georgina.

Yup, just had another look. He has half a dozen servants in 1901, and his father had servants on the 1881 too so it looks like the family had plenty of coin. I bet he owned the mine. Dianne xx

Found him on the Durham Mining Museum Site. Click on Who's who on the left hand side then scroll down to F.I.M.E. Period 1896-1897, then click on Members. He is listed as Maddison WHF The Lindens Darlington. Dianne xx
