Not much of a tip but there is a museum for the shoe industry in Northampton and if anyone knows of a list they should. Their number is 01604 838111. Have a look at northampton(.)gov(.)uk/museums Simon

Yes it would be well worth trying the museum. I am sure I have read only recently, but of course can't remember where, that they do hold these records. Sheila

I know Lyla said they held the records for cordwainers (shoemakers) in the LMA but not sure if that is a country wide thing. If I were you Id send an email to the Norfolk Records Office in Norwich - you can google for their website. (I had freemen cordwainers in Norwich).

Have you tried looking at the A2A (Access to Archives) catalogue? Or you could see if the Norfolk Archives have an on line catalogue. I obtained a Bedfordshire apprentice cordwainer indenture dated mid 1700s by searching their catalgue and writing to them. In this case my ancestor was the person taking on the apprentice. Anne
