Hi all I have my gt gt g'dad James Longhurst b:18th Feb 1863, Bethnal Green, London on 1881 cencus with parents George & Caroline and other siblings. I then have him on 1891 with wife Amy & 5 children but then he vanishes. On 1901 I have Amy (married) wife, & 8 children the youngest only being 1 year. Still the same address 29 Plover St Hackney. Amy is down as married so he couldnt have died (I cant find a death for him anyway). Sorry if this is a bit long winded but can anyone help Many thanks Marie |

What was his occupation? Is it possible he could be fighting in the Boer War? nell |

He was a zinc worker.I have checked the boer war site listed on here but is that just casualties and deaths. How can I find out if he was there. |

I checked on all James' aged 38 born Bethnal Green - nothing in the index that looks like it could be a mistranscription of Longhurst and no zinc workers. Then I tried Jas - nothing. Then I tried Longhurst aged 38 born Bethnal Green - zilch. nell |

I've tried looking for Longhurst James and for all Longhursts aged 38 =/- a year. Nothing remotely likely. He must be mistranscribed or abroad - or perhaps in a mental institution, where they were only listed by initials! nell |
