My Great Great Grandfather was a French Soldier who married his wife in the U.K. Can anyone help with where to start a search for any info on this subject. Please. Ann

If you know when they married, you should be able to get the marriage cert which will give his father's name and occupation, which should help. Ironically my husband's great-aunt married a Frenchman. We now have various papers, passport, details about his grave, photos of his first wife and children, pictures of him at work etc etc - more documentation than for any of my husband's blood relatives! If anyone is reading this and wants to know he was called Maurice Poubeau. nell
