Ages on 1841 census

I would be grateful if someone could advise about ages on 1841 census. Were they always rounded up or was it up/down to the nearest five. Thanks Gill

Supposedly down to the nearest five for adults (over 15 years old). Hence 53 would be 50. 27 would be 25. However I have found areas where they give an exact age.

Those for children up to the age of 15 had to be accurate, those for adults were rounded down to the nearest 5 years.

All the relatives I've found on 1841 the ages are accurate to within a year. Enumerators were obviously as naff at doing sums as I am. nell
