Archaic terms of death?

Had a death cert for an ancestor stating cause of death as 'shitheses'or poss 'phitheses' (writing not too clear) Anyone with any ideas what this was in modern terms?

Found this via genuki Phthisis: Chronic wasting away or a name for tuberculosis.

Sounds like this could be it Phthisis [ty'sis] Literally, means a wasting disease but almost invariably will mean pulmonary tuberculosis Any debilitating lung or throat affections; a severe cough; asthma Sue:-)

This was on one of my death certificates and found it to be TB
