Hi Rita,
Yeas I agree cherry lane is kept lovely, I don't have any of my family there but have been to some funerals there. The one in Harlington is in Victoria Lane, across the road from William Byrd School, has I said before I think it belongs to the Baptist Church but its not used any more, There are a few war graves in there, but if the runway goes ahead it will be right in its path, so will the school.

Thanks for that Rita, but I worry about the little one in Harlington has well, that one is not use any more, but I know people who have family in there. I'm glad about cherry Lane though.

Linda Report 19 Sep 2009 20:50

I used to live in Harlington, and I signed it in one of the shops in Hayes on one of my visits down there. Cherry lane is not the only grave yard, there is a tiny one in Harlington itself up for those that know the area its up Victoria Lane, there are some war grave in there, I think it belongs to the Baptists Church.

I too live near Heathrow and was disgusted to think it may happen. I've no family buried there but being a Middlesex gal, I wouldn't want this to happen - Heathrow already big enough and can't see why they should go for more space. For business blah blah.. Yadda yadda.

Sorry *steps down from soap box*

And I'll sign anything to stop it!

Hi
Just come back after doing some research.
Whilst the government response seems to be positive I think we still need to be vigilant.
I live near Heathrow so will keep an eye on the local press for any information.

Amanda
I'm sure she will appreciate an e-mail from you but you did right to bring this to our notice as I said at first I had seen the notices by chance when passing through Hayes, but couldn't really read it properly.
I am in contact with rita occaisionally anyway and had no idea her grandson was there, so recently too. Nobody gives us the truth in case we learn too much.

I for one am glad you added this thread to make others aware, especially those out of area.

Look at how many old graves have disappeared, some stones lay on the floor as paving slabs and others just propped against the walls. This is true in Winchester, as I have seen a family named stone regularly walked on !!!! I have taken pictures incase it wears away as some have.

Hi Linda,

Thank you, but I do feel bad now for Rita.

I didn't mean to cause anyone any upset, I probably should have gave this thread more thought before posting it.

I have sent her a message.

Kind regards
Amanda

The response from the government sounded positive to me, in that they will avoid disturbing the cemetery - I hope so, but who knows if there will even be the funding to do these expansions with the way things are now.

Hi Amanda
The petition seems positive.

I have "talked" to Rita as I was worried to for those I knew and she was really upset. Hopefully as I gave her the reply she is a bit better now.

I too got a reply today, though I had difficulty accessing it from my own e-mail.
So thank you Von

Hi,

Bless you Karen for adding I will have a look and do what I can.

Von, Bless you too, I got the same message, I know just how important is it to those of us who live here.

Rita, I will PM as I can't have her wondering about it all in case she doesn't read this reply and what Von posted, and I don't want to cause her any distress.

Kind regards

I've only just seen this thread, so I'm giving it a nudge.

I'm another who feels strongly against destroying villages, churches and churchyards, not to mention people's graves, to make way for airports, motorways etc.
I'm not against progress per se, but where progress and expansion will certainly cause great personal distress, as it would to those with connections to, and who live in Sipson village and area, then a line must be drawn.

In fact I felt so strongly about this issue that some time ago I became an airplotter......you could do the same.....airplot.org.uk

Hi Liz,

Thank you very much for signing.

I am going to have to investigate about my Grandparents grave as my Nan died in 1957, before I was born, I may be too late to do anything if it was for 50 years but I know my Dad owned the rights, or did he?
My Dad and Grandad had the same name!!!

Kind regards
Amanda

Hi Amanda

I have signed the petition.

I have no connections to this cemetery but I do not agree with any cemetery being demolished to make way for an airport or any expansion.

I hope the petition is successful in stopping these plans.

How awful that would be Amanda, I have just signed the petition.

I can only imagine how upset I would be if it was happening to my daughter's grave and family graves. I was talking to a person at our local Council yesterday about what I have to do to arrange to have my ashes put on or in her grave and checking the amount of years I have the burial rights for, another 40 years, as I got 75 years when I paid up, after 1982 it went down to 50 years for people buying the plots, now it is being considered that they put it down to 25 years, but my original agreement still stands luckily.
