Thank you Hayley and Deanna, feel free to come on any of the Greaders threads at any time. Hayley we read the Time Travellers wife on Greaders quite a while ago when the book first came out I agree it is an excellent book. I have not seen the film and wonder if it is as good as the book.

Deanna I agree about the Flowers in the Attic series, the first book was great, the follow up books were nowhere near as good.

I read FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC about 30 years ago, or more, will have to see when it was written.
I also read the sequels which became quite unbelievable and boring, although 'Flowers in the Attic' was based on a true story and was heart rending.
I don't want to say anything in case some of you may want to read it now and I may ruin the story for you.
But it was a very *unputdownable' book.
Do you like that word? I think I may have made it up. ;-0)


I have spoken to Ann before about joining the club.
I feel that I would not be able to stick to the rules. I read a lot, but often find it difficult to read to order.
At school We had to read
*DON QUIOTE*,and I found it SO boring, and had to plough my way through it.
My son bought me a copy for Christmas one year and Allan and I read it to each other.... we used to do that a lot when we were younger..... It is the most amusing story and we loved it. Definitely a book 'Wasted on the young'.
I just noticed that Haley had come on today, and the last message was in JULY!

Hello ladies sorry if thisisnt the up to date thread but I dont post much on gen now a days,

I have just finished reading " The time travellers wife" its a best seller so I am sure many of you have read it already, I really enjoyed it and it was very sad as well as funny fantastic read, certainly took all the glam out of time travelling.

Hayley, thanks for that, Yes I remember reading them all many years ago and finding them very distasteful but having to continue reading them with a sort of morbid fascination. Thanks also Esta (How are you by the way? Didn't know you were still a member, that is if it is the same Esta that went to the Bristol meet many years back.)

Thank you Theresa, I have had a PM but, as it was not signed 'Flump' I am not sure if it is one and the same person. Can I just say here that anyone is welcome to join in at any stage of the game and we also welcome other book reviews. There is a general book review thread somewhere but any of the threads will be OK, as long as, if you post a review on the suggestions thread you make it clear you are not putting it forward for that months suggestion (or if you are!!!! if you see what I mean!).

Hi Flump! There is still a book review. The next one is due on Thursday 16th July. We are reviewing "The Virgin Blue" by Tracy Chevalier and
"The Glass Painters Daughter" by Rachel Hore.

We will also be recommending books to read soon.
I had been off-line for a few months, so am not quite back in the swing of it yet.

It may be worth sending Ann a PM (just click on her name) and she will be able to give you more details.

I was just looking on the boards now to see if there was a thread asking for book suggestions, when I found your message.

I have just read garden of shadows in the flowers in the attic books.....if the Foxworths were a real family OMG, just reading petals in the wind as I wanted to read her confront her mother.....but its the last one I will read of hers I am not a fan at all...

Yes it was made into a film, Yes Ann it was the last VA started to write and died and her ghost writer alledgedly finished it..

I can only vaguely remember it Ann, but yes, I think it was creepy. I will have to look for it on DVD, to satisfy my curiosity

There was a Flowers In The Attic movie in the 80s not sure if it was just a tv movie or not

Ann, I could well be wrong, but i thought I had seen it on TV or a Video. I also rarely go to the cinema.

Wasn't Flowers in The Attic made into a film some years ago, or am I thinking of something else. It just seems familiar.

I seem to remember I read them all but it would have bee 20 or so years ago, at the time I must have enjoyed them in a strange sort of way. wasn't the last one in the series written by somebody else after she died? or am I thinking of somebody else?
