Sir Arthur Conan Doyle offered a fortune to any medium who could make contacact with his son who was killed in the great war.
Doyle died with this fortune unclaimed.

Harry Houdini escapologist spent the latter part of his life exposing mediums. He said that after his death if it were at all possible he would "come through" so far this has not happened.

Hi
what a great thread, about a year after my husband died I was fast asleep in bed, and I woke to find him standing by the bed looking at me, I know I was not dreaming. Another time I was at a friends for the first time and I saw a cat sitting on her hatch, She had never had a cat in that flat. Yes I believe.

I don't want to upset anyone living in Chester or Bethesda, North Wales, but two of my very strong feelings of spirit presence happened in these places.

Firstly, Chester Cathederal, it was so over-powering I couldn't wait to get out and have never been back, I could sense evil.
Secondly, we were thinking of moving house and OH's job to Bethesda. OH had arranged to meet a colleague from Texaco Bethesda in the small canteen at the depot used by the drivers. It contained a cooker, a table and three or four kitchen chairs. We were there about half an hour until his colleague arrived to take us to his home,I said to OH there is something funny here here and it is cold . He didn't say anything at the time but told me later that it wasbuilt on the spot where the mortuary had been for dead miners in the past. Think I must have a spook up my conduit or something, p.c. playing up over this message, text jumping about and not showing what I have written.until I stop

Personally, I've never knowingly seen a ghost, but could walk past one every day in the street!
I'm amazed that on 'Most haunted' etc, all the 'ghosts' seem to be old - from a past time in history. Many more people have died violent deaths since then - car crashes etc.
The body is an electrical mass - what happens to that electircity when we die? (can I donate my body to the national gird?) LOL
To me, that electical energy could be what is called the 'soul' - or ghost.

My grandad died 6 weeks before I was born - and my mum saw him, just after he died, while she was in the bath! She told him to go away as she was embarrassed - and he did. Don't know if this is significant - but I was born 6 weeks early and not expected to live.
My ex's brother's secretary, a year or two after their dad died, told him a man had come to see him, but had since gone. She gave a perfect description of his dad ( a very distinctive man) - who died in Hampshire, England, and my ex's brother lived in South Africa!

Both my daughters, aged about 6 and 8 at the time saw ghosts from the past at Maiden Castle and at Stinsford Church in Dorset.

I've told this tale before so please stop reading if you know it.

I went to a medium with all the girls from the office about 25 years ago, whom I had never seen before. He told me someone close to my family had been hurt that day. He asked who was massively fond of baked beans. He described my future house to me. He told me I was pregnant.

My father's best friends fell whlie climbing that very day and broke a leg. My father was massively fond of baked beans. The house he described is one I dream about often - but don't yet live in, mores the pity. I WAS pregnant - but didn't know it at the time. I was about 3 weeks pregnant so hadn't even taken a test. .

The other thing he told me was that I would have two children. I have three children and, whenever one of them is ill, I look at them and worry....

Like anything in life, with mediums you get the genuine ones and others trying to cash in on it. I personally despise those that charge a fortune and the 'commercial' circuses that rip off people who may be in real need or who are vulnerable because of their loss.

Last year there was a psychic evening in the function room of a local pub. I paid my fiver on the door which I thought was fair enough ... but no way was I going to part with upwards of £30 for a 'short' reading and apparently £50 - £60 for a detailed one. So I haven't got a clue if any of the dozen psychics and readers were any good. It was effectively a con.

On another occasion, I went to a charity seance evening and paid £20 - which all went to a hospice. There were 5 mediums on throughout the evening and they were good - really good!

So, there you go - the good and the bad. The trouble is that the bad ones give mediums a bad name and the good and genuine ones get tarred with the same brush.

Can they really do what they claim? If you are lucky enough to find a genuine one, you won't need any convincing - it'll hit you like a brick.

Hi
I have been to a medium twice now and she has told me things that she couldnt possibly have known, she did not know where I lived or anything about me. I did not tell her if she was right on anything and wrote everything down so she could not get in my mind (telepathy). I took a tape recorder both times. The first time it recorded fine but the second visit the tape was blank (it was an old tape with something already on it) so I knew it had been through the motion.

I had always been sceptical since I had been asked by a friend to attend an open meeting years ago. I Idefiniely felt that was fake and could not help smiling throughout.

I certainly feel the spirit is left although the body dies.

Hi, I spoke before on here, and on re-reading the thread noticed that someone remarked on atmospheres attatched to buildings.

Five years ago hubby and I decided to sell up and move from our nice, quiet country village, to somewhere nearer to town for convenience of buses, shops ect, as we are getting old and creaky.

After viewing many houses we finally came upon the one we bought. It was a 30's detached, bizarrely in the middle of a large council estate, the garden was deep in litter, curtains all hanging askew and lots of windows were broken. The inside was in even worse state, doors kicked in, oak panelling smashed, and filth everywhere, we later learned that the house had been let to assylum seekers, drug addicts and other low life who didn't know how to respect other peoples property.

Despite all this, we both sensed an overpowering atmosphere of calm and happiness on two visits, and offered ten grand more than the asking price which was accepted with haste.
After we spent months making it habitable, and getting to know the neighbours we found out that the house had been built by two Midwives as a nursing home, and even more wierd is that one of the nurses had the same surname as my grandmother and may well have been a close relation. Part of my gene search is now trying to prove if this is the case.

Watch this space !!

AgLab, that's a fascinating story about the old lady cadging lifts.
I will have to have a look at that site too, when I am not so tired as now.

Mo, how lovely to have found the house of your (day)dreams - you must feel very comfortable there.

Julie, that daffodil popping out of the basket must have been a sight to see lol Nice that your Mum can have a bit of fun with you.

I've seen enough and had more than a few experiences to make me feel that there is more to this life than getting born, living and popping off again. So much so, that I started a website which covers the paranormal because I feel that too many people have had experiences that really need to be discussed and looked at with an open mind.

It affects people in many ways, some are interested, some are convinced, some poo-poo it and it is surprising how many people are worried about telling others of their experiences because of the reaction they might get. And there are more than just a few who have fears of feeling they have experienced something paranormal and don't know where someone will listen.

This thread is great because a lot of people have been 'brave' enough to give their experiences and I bet quite a few were relieved, in a way, to do it - knowing that they would be listened to with interest and respect., Samantha did a great job in starting it.

I hope it's OK to give the name of the site, it's Perception9 Paranormal. I won't link to it as I don't think that would be right. I put it here as it might interest a few and might be of help to a few others as well.

But experiences - my most recent experience was only a few months ago. I was just opening the front door after walking the dog when a couple were getting shopping out of the their car - just up the road, about 30 yards away. What caught my attention was an old lady getting out as well - straight through the couple who didn't even notice her. As I stood and watched, the old 'un turned up the path and hurried off around the corner. I recognised the old lady as she was notorious for flagging cars down to give her a lift to the shops or home again - even diving out in front of them.

It didn't feel ghostie though - although she literally went through the couple and away. I knew what I had seen couldn't have been a living person and sort of assumed that she had come unstuck trying to stop a car. Not so though. I found out that evening that she had collapsed in the street . I also worked out that she must have collapsed a little while before I saw her getting out of the car. The next day I found out for certain that she had died.

So, I don't really know if I saw her after she had died or if I saw her spirit as it was passing but it's one of those experiences that seem less sad as , to my mind anyway, she was still up to her old tricks of lift cadging even then. Although, she couldn't have been too pleased as the car must have gone right past her door to come into our road - which meant that she had a fair way to walk back.

This was in broad daylight. She looked as solid as anybody and all I was thinking about was getting a coffee. Looking back it feels more like an odd thing happening than a spookie one.

Another weird thing happened to me.
When I was a child of 3/4 years, I had this imaginary family, their name was Hants. They lived in this detached house, with french windows, the garden was large, which sloped down to a stream running through the bottom, lots of trees, and I named it Cat Dell, as lots of cats used to come to drink there. This was just in my mind, not real.

OH and I decided to move from the area we had been brought up in, and looked around in Hampshire -which is sometimes shortened to Hants, The house we finally bought- Detached, french windows, large garden sloping down to trees, and a stream running through the bottom, and yes the cats from the neighbourhood come and drink in the stream.

Was I able to see into the future? Weird or what?

If believing makes you a weirdo, then I too am one. Had too many experiences not to believe. When I visit new places I can always feel if there is a prescence and when meeting strangers often end up finding they are believers, it's as though we are drawn to each other. Was speaking to a fellow caravaner only this last week, have known him as a neighbour on the park for ten years, but this time he suddenly told us he believed and had seen his late Mother, it was as though he was confessing and thought we would think him mad, but when we said we also believed, the relief on his face was good to see.

I am a devout Christian and believe in the Holy Trinity.

I have had "funny" feelings all my life, like knowing the content of letters ect.
I am also a firm believer in the afterlife as I have always felt and seen ghosts, even my lost pets.

When trawling through census, birth records, will sometimes feel a strange, tingly sensation when I come to a name, and it usually proves to be the right one.

yes i believe,

im reading a book at moment Angels in my hair,
its good reading,

when my mum left us 15 year ago now, my sister in law (at the time) stood in kitchen with me chatting at dads house, and we were talking bout mam, no one near it but a saucepan fell off the wrack in front of us, and a little basket of artificial daffs my daughter gave mam one year for mothers day was by her and dads weddin pic, and at same time as above a daff popped out of the arrangement, like it was pulled, we did laugh at that,
ive also been to take flowers to mums grave and as i looked down over the cemetry seen a little girl leaning over placeing flowers, no one around, as i looked again she was gone, there was no one at all around so she couldnt of run off with anyone,
she was wearing clothes not of this time when i thought , a little brown pinifore dress brown tights and shoes, she looked old fashioned

adam they say child spirits are mischievous, they do silly things to makeyou laugh, like pulling your clothes, playing round at night
animals are very aware of spirits too
