When I was little I believed that the people running the country were good, law-abiding upstanding, citizens who were each well qualified in their field, and knew all the answers and did what was best for the good of the country.
I'm not being sarcastic, I honestly thought that.

Isn't it sad Karen when we find out that isn't so. Also when we find out there are people in authority who take advantage of their position and rort the system. But the saddest thing of all is when we find out that not all adults are kind to and protective of children. If you've grown up in a loving home its so sad to find out that not all children grew up in that way. This is from experience when I found out that a schoolfriend lived in a terrible household where she was constantly abused. It was a shock that I never forgot.

I remember when I was about five, I reckoned being sixteen or so would be fantastic because it seemed so grown up. Then when I got to sixteen, all I got was mountains of GCSE homework and coursework to do and, naturally, that was when I started thinking, "Wouldn't it be great to be 5 again?"!

I also used to completely trust what doctors told me when I was smaller, but - as I've got older - I've got a lot more cynical. Half of the time, whatever's wrong with me, I feel like they think everybody who walks through the door is making their illness up and I've also come to realise that I think my GP is a bit hopeless (which is not an idea that you tend to have when you're smaller).

I think we tend to get cynical about professionals when we get older. Just reading a newspaper can cause that.
