Because my eyes take some time to adjust to electric light I am quite grateful for the slow warm up. We use a 25watt eco-light bulb where we need extra light. with only one light fitting in the sitting room we needed it. |

I'm surprised that no-one has invented a better replacement for the traditional light bulb which has been around for about 100 years (?). In this day & age where technology is improving at a rate of knots I wonder why there isn't some sort of bulb which lasts forever & gives out decent light, not the inferior light from the eco-friendly bulbs. |

We saved and saved to buy a beautiful crystal chandelier, it`s going to look VERY pretty when I have to replace one of the candle bulbs with one of the new monstrosities. |

I was just thinking that myself, Julia - I'm very short-sighted anyway and I notice sometimes it is difficult to see in dim light. I'm all for saving energy but I think you have to draw a line when it's getting hard to see when you're going downstairs at night and you might trip over! |

In answer to who needs instant bright light afforded by 100 watt bulbs.... I seem to remember someone arguing that the 'slow full light up time' of some of the energy efficient bulbs could result in accidents especially for the elderly and those with poor sight . |

According to the Daily Mail, the Germans have been buying stocks of them before the ban comes into force. Thats why they are scarce. |

Apparantly they cost more to make and should be disposed of safely ( They seem to have some sort of Mercury in the, also the Flickering of them has been shown to cause fits in certain people. But thats the EU, and of course Progress,(Not) **M**. |

Its been on the cards for months and I therefore have enough stored to keep Blackpool lit for the next three years lol....erm seriously what does this mean for Blackpool and other resorts that use normal bayonet 100w and 60w bulbs?...Are Halogen bulbs okay otherwise my kitchen spotlights are going to be a bit sad as the bulbs fail |

Talk about the blind leading the blind, if you will pardon the pun. I already wear glasses as does many people, but hate the thought of doing away with the brighter light bulbs. What about the statistics going up when it is found that there is an increase in accidents/deaths of people such as the elderly and infirm, in their own homes, because of dimly lit staircases for instance. For me, and many others this is absolutely rediculous. And what is it all for. |

The 100w bulbs, as well as less common 80w bulbs, will no longer be sold after August 31. Frosted glass bulbs of all types will also be banned. |
