I object to anyone deleting threads in which other people have posted. Period. My words are mine, not someone else's. If I want my words deleted, I'll delete them. Of course, I object to the practice of deleting posts, as well ... you say it, you own it.

I don't regard deleting my words as "good old-fashioned courtesy". I regard it as rude.

We have no control over what the management here decides to delete; that is another matter. And I will continue to report posts that are overtly bigoted, racist, homophobic, misogynist ... because I prefer that I not have to look at such filth at a website I pay to use, and I prefer that the corporation I pay for the use of the site not permit it to be used for such purposes.

Once again, all I can say is: if someone doesn't want to hear comments on what they say or post, their best course is not to say or post it. Anyone who thinks their words are above challenge, or that "well that's my opinion" puts an end to any challenge, is wrong.

I'm referring there to posts in a thread. As far as the OP of the thread in question goes: well, pretty much the same, I guess. If one doesn't want to hear answers to one's questions and discussion of those answers, one probably shouldn't post the questions.

This is a discussion board. If the discussion of one's question takes a turn one did not anticipate or does not like: that's life. Not the problem of the person who started the discussion.

Perhaps people who plan to delete threads that contain discussion they don't like should say at the outset that they are only inviting comment from people who agree with them or with opinions posted in their thread that they like.

MayBlossomEmpressofSpring Report 26 Aug 2009 17:21

Hello, Dizzi, the original thread and answers weren't about war but towards the end of the thread, Bernie was referring to Germany, the outcome of the war etc., he was accused of being "The Other Bernie" and possibly a member of the BNP, which he denied. Today on Merlin's thread, it was suggested that maybe not everyone shared his sense of humour when he said he loved winding people up about such things.

Personally I don't find anything in connection with WW 1 WW 11 or any other war humourous.

Rose and Bernie, respectfully, if you read what I said earlier on this thread you will see it was I who deleted my original thread.

Hello DET, I like to feel I am a humanist and treat all things humans, animals eveny the slugs who ruin my plants with the respect they deserve, I think everyone and everything are placed on this earth for a purpose and although I don't know exactly what some of the purposes are,try to be at peace with all things.

Merlin

Merlin Report 26 Aug 2009 15:48

very true, but you always get a few people who go completely of the subject posted and it then tends to hit the fan.**M**.

Thanks, Merlin. I didn't t want to start WW 111 by asking what to me was a simple question in the first place.

May Blossom, Good for you, I expected it to be whooshed at any time. I only refered to it so as to correct a MisQuote ,**M**.Ps, and if this in my opinion gets Iffy ,I will delete.

I deleted my original Politically Correct question as I thought the replies were getting a bit heated, especially last night. If anyone wants to continue along these lines, feel free to do so, I believe in good old fashoined courtesy.

Merlin, I read this thread up to 130 posts a little while ago. Last person to post that I saw was Bernie, saying he liked to wind people up. Perhaps someone took exception to what he said.
