My grand daughter (aged 7) was diagnosed (over the phone) with swine flu and was prescribed Tamiflu.
Pharmacist was very reluctant to give it to daughter (who had forgotten grand daughters birth cert anyway) and said she (daughter) couldn't take them even if she got Swine flu as she was pregnant - and they haven't been tested of effects on pregnant women yet!
Kevin my kidney is due for a check up this week - and if I'm offered any flu jab - I won't accept it.
I've never had a flu jab in my life, and Kevin survived for 51 years and 2 pregnancies before I found out he was the only one (kidney that is). He survived 51 years of my behaviour and is quite healthy - so why change the (bad) habits of a lifetime!
If I get flu I'll be on the soup, paracetamol and hot toddy routine as usual!

My wife, a qualified Pharmacy Technician, has always refused to have any flu jabs, as did all her former work colleagues, and by all accounts, many in the profession today.

Her view was and still is that there is no way you can protect against future variations of the flu only previous ones, and therefore the protection you will receive is minimal or in many cases non-existent.

On the other hand there is the risk of adverse reaction to a largely untested vaccine, which may be far higher than than the risk of catching the flu itself.

oh gosh its so sad that swine flu has killed two pregnant mums, I bet their families wish that theyd been able to have a jab

blackrose Report 14 Oct 2009 09:49

Well I've had my first flu jab ever on saturday and I think they asked me to because of having a stroke in April so I have been told that I will be asked to have swine flu jab aswell when available so I have read threads with interest. I am concerned that whenever I cough my head hurts and then I think I'm going to burst another blood vessel in my brain so if by having this jab it will be one virus less to worry about I think I should have it but also worry about the so called side affects so its a quandry

Our local pharmacis told us that she wont be having the swine flu jab. My daughter had the diarahea? (sp) temperature flu no cold. She phoned the help line. They told her swine flu but daughter didn;t take the tablets. Just took Imo tablets and headache tablets and was soon better.
I will just go for my normal flu jab.

We had our flu jabs yesterday, the swine flu ones are not available yet, but we both decided we wont bother having them..... I was reading that there are some side effects that havent been clinicly proved yet, dont need any more complications......

I missed out on my ordinary flu jab last year I think, and am due to have that soon as well as being eligible for the swine flu due to being classed as asthmatic, but I am not sure I will have the swine flu jab. It isn't just people with underlying illnesses that are dying from swine flu tho, some normally healthy folk are succumbing too. Think I will take my chance tho.

I really don't know. I've had pneumonia twice as a child and got bad chest infections till I had ordinary flu jabs. I have also had the pneumonia innoculation now so that should help too.

Hope you are soon feeling better Dianne. You will feel tired and run down for a while after so take good care of yourself and don't overdo it.

Lorraine

Lorraine Report 13 Oct 2009 16:26

we were offered them at work as I work for children social services everyone in my dept said no, they have not had a long enough clinical trial and from what i can see its only people with underlying health issues who are badly effected I'll take my chances thanks.

Dianne

Dianne Report 13 Oct 2009 15:46

If I had had the chance of the jab I would have taken it. I didn't get the chance and now I have spent the last 3 weeks with swine flu which has now turned to pneumonia.

Needless to say my family will be having it as soon as they can.

My Daughter had been really unwell, she had the usal Cough, snotty nose, high tep, headache ,legs aching. Took her to the doctors thought he'll say swine flu ,no he tells me she has some kind of viru,s.No mention of flu.
I came home after picking up a leaflet at the surgery for swine flu info.So thought i would just see what that says, filled in my daughters symptoms etc and recieved a code for us to collect the Tamiflu drug for her (which i did not give her),so i presumed the on line service decided she'd had swine flu.Well if it was it was mild 3 nights and days of hight temp, lots of calpol, and T.L.c shes just now left with a nasty cough but lots better. So no i would not or my kids have the flu injection.

I shall have it.... I am in remission from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, which has a 70% chance of relapsing in the first couple of years after treatment.... my immune system is still a bit precarious, and I may need a bone marrow transplant...... I am not taking any chances, lol
