Hi Smiffy.
Think you are probably on to something.
It never ceases to amaze me when we are advised to do this, or not to that in order to live longer, then in the next breath, the government are wringing their hands because it hasn“t got enough money for pensions, care homes etc.because we are all living too long.

Latest statistics, 1,000 people a week are coming to UK (I think, was painting my nails lol so not sure pmsl. Maybe its a month? Probably a week tho.) Theres 22,000 peeps on our local housing waiting list, seriously! So where will everyone be housed? I feel sorry for those with children in B&B's etc. Especially at Christmas time :-(( I do think the floodgates need to be shut, even if they re-open in a decade or so, there is not room here.

You can't stop people having babies (didn't china do just that?), well you could stop paying them to have them, maybe only paying child benefit to the first 2 or 3 would concentrate the mind a little.

Actually I think it said (and I hesitate to put this as I risk being called racist but I am certainly not, just quoting statistics) the population explosion was among immigrant families more than British born families.

Ann, it did say that. I didnt put that because someone would screech 'racism'. How sad when we cant speak our minds.

It is not racist if it is a statistical fact.

by how much would the population be reduced if we sent back all our global undesirables, who come to Britain knowing we are a soft touch.
I was speaking the other day to a Hungarian , wo quoted that the gypsy population in Hungary knowmore about the British benefit system than we do 9 don't that say it all.

our local council has just merged most of our local schools because of the FALLING birth rate!!! We tried to tell 'em they got it wrong!!!! did they listen? of course not. they were going to close those schools and sell off the land regardless of what the local population thought....

hi sue
but it is,nt shared equally some make a killing because they play the system to gold medal standard while the honest people who through no fault of their own fall on hard times get zilch or very little.
i am fortunate i suppose, but have seen the poor and needy inverted commas in the what we call "the gyro lounge" at rthe pub .
Not a lot of remorse there.

I was never confused about Budgies new name - probably cos I didn't know his or her old name!

Hi Igor

Sadly, if you have a system, there will be some who play it. Just human greed - but no reason, in my own opinion, not to protect the weaker amongst us.

that having been said, we're so lucky to live in this country. Even the poorest amongst us don't have to sit and watch our children's babies dying of hunger or disease.

While chatting about it!

hi sue
so true, and iv'e seen hunger and despair first hand,
we are lucky, very lucky, but why oh why do some people insist on biting the very hand that feeds them

Thanks Fiona

My daughter is married to a Zambian

Last year, his sister lost her only child to malaria - despite my daughter and her husband sending money to have the poor child treated in a proper hospital.

The story didn't have a happy ending, unfortunately

But, had my daughter and her husband not been able to help, that child wouldn't have even had a chance.

That's what I mean by saying we should consider ourselves so very lucky to live in this country.

Igor - I'm sure that some people misuse their benefit cheques. But although that is regrettable, it doesn't really have any bearing on over population, or world poverty.

LittleWhiteDove2022351 Report 28 Aug 2009 23:45

Igor you are so right. Some do bite the hand that feeds them.We should be proud of the systems in this country we are very lucky...
Just a shame there isn't the same diligence and determination to catch the MP's out over the expenses scandal as there is to catch out benefit cheats and force them into jobs that are totally unsuitable and pay peanuts..
Yes I've been watching Saints and Scroungers and Benefit Busters.

ps I think our welfare system is part of the reason for the population explosion.
