We do have to remember that it isnt only coloured people who immigrate, there are plenty from white backgrounds and the latest batches seem to be so often pimps and criminals. There should be a ban on any more and let the country get up of its knees. I could add that those young people who are persistently drunk should not be allowed to become parents.Sterilization would be an answer. If that sounds harsh, who do you think is going to pick up the pieces?

To be honest most of them seem to be running round the streets bare footed, but yes, some are left at school so their parents can head straight down the pub at opening time. May sound stuck up, but it happens, sadly.

Do winos who sit on benches drinking all day. actually have children at school?

RStar Report 1 Sep 2009 15:22

My husband has back and shoulder problems but works 13 hours a day (from 5.30am) carrying leather sofas into houses, up flights of stairs, taking windows out and doors off. He has to come home and see wino's sat on walls drinking their lager and cider and getting their rent and council tax paid for them, plus free school meals AND uniforms for their kids. Makes me wonder why we bother sometimes.

That is amazing, seeing that the population of Canada is 33 million. I didn't realise that it was that high.

Having just spent a few days in the US, I commented to my husband that the price of food there is a lot less than in Canada. I put it down to supply and demand, as the population down there is over 300 million.

your right suzian some do milk the system

I guess - sorry if I'm wrong, Igor - that the point at issue is that some people are in a position to take advantage of our welfare state, whilst others are most certainly not.

It must piss people off when their family fights for freedom, to see others milking that very system

Igor you are so right. Some do bite the hand that feeds them.We should be proud of the systems in this country we are very lucky...
Just a shame there isn't the same diligence and determination to catch the MP's out over the expenses scandal as there is to catch out benefit cheats and force them into jobs that are totally unsuitable and pay peanuts..
Yes I've been watching Saints and Scroungers and Benefit Busters.

ps I think our welfare system is part of the reason for the population explosion.

Igor - I'm sure that some people misuse their benefit cheques. But although that is regrettable, it doesn't really have any bearing on over population, or world poverty.

suzian Report 28 Aug 2009 23:33

Thanks Fiona

My daughter is married to a Zambian

Last year, his sister lost her only child to malaria - despite my daughter and her husband sending money to have the poor child treated in a proper hospital.

The story didn't have a happy ending, unfortunately

But, had my daughter and her husband not been able to help, that child wouldn't have even had a chance.

That's what I mean by saying we should consider ourselves so very lucky to live in this country.

Hi Igor

Sadly, if you have a system, there will be some who play it. Just human greed - but no reason, in my own opinion, not to protect the weaker amongst us.

that having been said, we're so lucky to live in this country. Even the poorest amongst us don't have to sit and watch our children's babies dying of hunger or disease.

While chatting about it!

hi sue
but it is,nt shared equally some make a killing because they play the system to gold medal standard while the honest people who through no fault of their own fall on hard times get zilch or very little.
i am fortunate i suppose, but have seen the poor and needy inverted commas in the what we call "the gyro lounge" at rthe pub .
Not a lot of remorse there.
