decision made today...... After 9 years at home with children.........*gulps*

Mums.......if you went back to work.......what job/hours did you do? and how hard did you find it to juggle the job with the children? xx

Muffyxx Report 1 Sep 2009 20:50

I'm happy to do just about anything except work at a school Angie lol.

Hubby works four on four off so there will be times when a day job won't be overly convenient.

I've been told a few places here do *mum* shifts where you can take unpaid time off for kids illesses and holidays and it's not frowned upon ........though I doubt it'll be a super duper job......it'll ease me back into the job market so it'll do for now if I can find one !!!!

Eventually I'm hoping to join one of the mum's at the school who mans the towns CCTV cameras.......I'm told vacancies will be coming up in the Autumn and I'm hoping they'll be flexible hours with that ultmately cos I quite fancy that ....being a nosy old bag lol xx

I worked part time in the local Wimpy when mine went to school. Holiday meant childminders as I didn't have family round where I was, but I did have good friends who I trusted completely.

Lots of mums manage to get jobs at the schools, as dinner ladies, or cleaners, or even teachers helps (whatever the actual title is). That way holidays are no problem and some even put you on a retainer so you are paid a percentage during school hols.

Job v kids...no problem juggling that, as the job was done during school hours. But...routine is important, or you will lose track of what the hell you're doing for a while lol

its called term time, and your paid pro rata its not unpaid your salary is adjusted accordling you still get 12 payslips per year providing if you have cover OT or UAL, then you are paid roughly the same amount every month, I always worked part time round children and OH shifts I always had at least 2 jobs , I work for sister for a long time when she had the pub, I did bar work and cleaning and could jungle the children accordingly, they have after school clubs and all sorts now, didnt have when mine where small butmy sisters and I help each other out...

I dont know what your skilled at Muffy, but one of the best PA'S I ever had - had little experiance at being a PA - She could type and use word, Excel email and that sort of thing from being at home.

But having been a stay at home mum for I think it was 15 years - she had my diary running like clock work and wouldnt take any crap from me!!!

She was fab - unfortunatly I left the firm after having her for about 2 years (and employing her). Ive never had a PA organise me so well in my life.

I'll clean loos if the hours are right I'm not mithered.xx

Ah, now my mate was a dinner lady, she was paid one third pay during holidays and it was called 'retainer' payment.

My neighbour was a theatre cleaner at the hospital from 6 to 10 weekdays. This fitted in with the kids and her hubby. Only thing is, they didn't see each other except at weekends..

My OH and I worked at the same place for a while, when his son was with us, so we arranged to work opposite shifts, 6-2 and 2-10, so there was always someone there when he came home from school. During holidays he would spend an hour with the neighbour to cover the shift change.

We didn't like that though, we never saw each other and were too knackered at weekends lol

Hayley I don't fancy working at the schools........I'd like to be around adults if i can.......you know I'd REALLY love to work at a greasy spoon cafe and cuss and banter like I haven't been able to freely for years here lol

I want a total change and nothing to taxing to start with

ALSO I do a MEAN fry up :0)............xx

I will be totally honest with you Muffy, Boots and stores like that will start taking on for christmas soon but its very stale out there at the moment, what with the school leavers and all, its has gotten better since new year and still alot of places or decent places are not taking on at the mo...

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 1 Sep 2009 21:11

Yeah totally the wrong time for me to have made the decision isn't it Hayley? lol.

It's ok .......I'm happy just to work for now at whatever and widen my scope as and when things improve....

I've missed working and now the girls are older I'm ready to cut the apron strings a bit ....whatever I do I'll enjoy the change in scenery.....I'm not expecting much tbh lol xx

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 2 Sep 2009 20:19

Well.........been offered at least two cleaning jobs .....which if the hours suit I'll take to start me off.......plus a couple of seasonal fruit picking jobs...which are pretty cruddy really but am happy to do in the short term....... also have applied to one of those courier companies where you are given a job lot of parcels to deliver.......one of the girls at the school does it and says it's worthwhile....so fingers crossed they'll be vacancies there for me.

Off to the job centre on Friday as well.......so productive day on day one of the big job hunt lol xx

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 2 Sep 2009 20:22

Muffyxx Report 2 Sep 2009 20:27

You will be suprised how many women loose their confidence whilst staying at home or man for that fact, you'll love it, bit of extra dosh and all that.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 2 Sep 2009 20:38

Weeeeeeeeeell the extra dosh will just pay the bills without stress for now I think Hayley but that in itself will be a lovely change from worrying about how to rob Peter to pay Paul lol. IF there is any left over from that it will be a nice bonus.....and let's face it I'm not exactly setting my sights high for now lol. xx
