For years boys ( and girls come to that) have been called Robin/Robyn- why is Sparrow so different?

The unkindest one was a girl i went to school with, the 4th in a line of sisters. Her name was Peta, ( pronounced Peter) I guess they wanted a son

Not as stupid as Sarah Cox's son ...... Isaac!!!! Lovely name but can you imagine the ribbing at school?

I knew a girl, her surname was Wood, who wanted to call her daughter Scarlett. Lovely name agreed but we pointed out that as she got older she would inevitably be known as REDWOOD

Have a look on freebmd searching for births of people named Spa*

There's a Sparrow as early as 1838
......and even a Sparrow Sparrow later on.......

Tuesday Weld's real name was Susan. Apparently she was called 'Tuesday,' as a child, by one of her siblings.

I still think that you can't beat, Moon Unit Zappa, or Cher's daughter, Chastity Blue. Zowie Bowie, or Zowie Jones, calls himself Luke, I believe.

I loved your reply Maz about names beginning Spa.... There must be lots more. Have tears of laughter streaming down my face at moment.

Hi Tania, you made me laugh - on the Chat page it says "named her son Spa" so I was thinking Spam, Spanner, Spaghetti :-)))
Sparrow was a bit of a disappointment pmsl

Sorry Bernie, I was a bit slow on the uptake there!

'Sparrow' does seem rather a lot to lumber the poor child with. I wonder if it will become popular now. A friend of mine told me that her son is at school with a 'Raven' !

It was a joke Fiona. I knew who Lionel was but I did not know who Nicole Ritchie was. Now that I know what she has named her poor child I still do not want to know her.

Lionel Ritchie was the lead singer of the Commodores, Bernie. You must remember 'Three Times a Lady'.

Yes, ... It's a pretty name, but a bit too close to Sunday Roast for me !

I notice in primary schools there is a return to what we would have at one time called 'old fashioned' names.
Henry, Alfie, George, Archie, Amelia, Jessie etc all seem to be quite popular.

I grew up having to spell out my Welsh name, to Hampshire friends and neighbours, so my 3 children have rather 'ordinary' names, that people recognise.

Zowie Bowie :o))

MJs youngest is actually called Prince Michael 3rd, but his nickname is blanket

I must admit I like Nicole kidmans daughters name..Sunday Rose...how pretty is that, especially with an Aussie twang.

To be called something different is one thing, but to be tagged with a monica that is laughable is child cruelty.

But just think, the Doris, Ida, Florence`s can all be "aged" because of their names.

The Sharon`s, Kim`s and tracy`s ditto ditto

The Chelsea`s, McCauley`s and Demi`s ditto ditto

Come 50 years time.....the Sparrows etc. ditto ditto

Some of these celebs call their children the most ridiculous of names like Bob Geldoff's girls.

Michael Jackson's youngest is called Blanket!

I remember David Bowie called his son something like Zigi and the lad changed it to something ordinary like Joe when he was old enough.

BUt, what a gem of a name if and when the time comes to do ancestry research.

I have a Flowers, male that is, and it was a doddle to research.
