Do you remember the petrol strike of 2000?

I remember the panic stations too as we got married on the 16th September, and it was a big worry as to whether our guests would be able to make it as they were all coming from afar.

I remember my cousin's wife phoning me from a supermarket where she had found some bread for sale, and asked me should she get it for the buffet as we were catering ourselves. She was an absolute star.

In the end there was only my husband's sister and brother in law who didn't make it, which was sad with them being close family, but we still managed a turnout of 106.

Iremember it well. we drove up to the west coast of Scotland, on a holiday paid for out of money I saved Not smoking. It was like one of those science fiction stories, where everyone in the world but us had disappeared, the roads were all empty, brilliant!!

Dear GypsyLady

Hello

Yes, remember it well.

There was a huge notice saying "NO PETROL" but the cars still went to the service station! The police came along to sort things out.

I got to Asdas within 10 minutes and apart from 3 fireman, buying goods and half a dozen customers, the shop was empty.

Some stored petrol in unsafe containers. Panic buying!

Hope your son has a very happy birthday.

Best wishes to you.
xx

had a friend who was a driving instructor and he travelled to France to get fuel as worked out cheaper than trying to get it over here.

My eldest was only a month or less old.......and I used to go to the 24 hr Tescos in the early hours when I had zero chance of getting any sleep anyhow and buy up loads of bread and distribute it to my family and friends lol x

I didn't get stuck in any traffic - Paul did though - He was having to travel between home and the hospital (I was already in there) as he had to look after the girls. When my labur started he couldn't get to the hospital. Didn't matter in the end though - I didn't have the baby for another 2 days!

It's the anniversary today. I know because I was in hospital having gone into labour with my son. It was horrendous, No midwives to deliver the babies! My son ended up quite ill because of that strike!... Can't believe he will be 9 on Monday.
