Mind you, saying that, lots of people love pickled eggs, I suppose it's not much different.

Its odd how many cravings involve pickles and/or vinegar. Is there some mineral in vinegar the body needs during pregnancy?

NO - but OH spent a lot of time boiling an egg - soft boiled only - then mashed hot into vinegar

Had no cravings,but found that I couldnt eat some foods,salmon and pork made me very ill

When I was pregnant

With both my boy's I would just crunch on ice cubes I had to have a constant supply, and with my daughter Chocolate ice cream.

Funny I was only taking about that to my daughter the other day. There was one occasion where I had to go to the shops to buy dinner plus my chocolate ice cream but I did not have enough money on me to pay for everything, but i would not give up my ice cream so I ended up giving back some of our dinner for that day ::)))

Well this went well LOL. Ok off topic a little, but still good.

Maggie, the courtauld family owned an awful lot of land in the area, much of it given to the town, for the hospital, the park and so on. It's thanks to them the town had such prosperity.

I was an ag lab in Cambridgeshire though, flat, open, prairie style farming in those days, with the elms all but gone through disease. Happy to see more trees growing in the area again. Beautiful black loamy soil though, perfect for celery.

I do remember peeing in the ditches and along the edges, quite a skill not to get anything wet in a gale force wind, with a train going along behind you *blushes*, but what else is a girl supposed to do?

I suppose the elf and safety brigade would soon put a stop to that nowadays and have farmers provide portable loos....not half as much fun LOL

I was in Essex - vast fields with no hedges. I remember the stair rod rain - but have to admit the owner of the estate (Julien Courtauld - stepson of Rab Butler) didn't like us working in blizzards......................

............Nothing to do with my berating him - honest!! LOL

Helen... this was in 1973.......... it would take oh about 20 minutes to walk there (via Herme st) and then 20 minutes back, anyone else remember this.... Gwyn in Kent need not apply, lololol ;¬))

The first time we found a nest of mice, we carefully put them on the edge of the field - then were horrified to see a crow pecking them!
After that - we just killed the babies - harsh but more humane.

As you say - we have an inkling of our ancestor's lives.
How many people can pee in a river and not wet their trousers! LOL

I also remember the celery setter getting stuck in wet ground, and the tractor pulling it would tip backwards. We all had to get off, some sat on the tractor to weigh it down, the rest manually lifted the setter out of the boggy bit.

Then it was a mad panic to get the gap planted by hand....

I did one field, blinding blizzards when we started, six jumpers, gloves, scarves, hats...and two weeks later fully sunburnt ..

Yes Maggie, and sometimes on the tater harvester we pulled up entire nests of them, tiny naked babies and all...

Eeh those were the days, and to be honest, although it was hard, back-breaking dirty work, I actually miss them.

Not that I would go rushing out now I hasten to add LOL

Loved strawberry picking for the markets at 5.00am. Hated hoeing onions or rogueing in the wheat fields...

But at least I have an idea of what it was like for all my numerous ag labs..

TW - did you ever find mice in the trays? LOL

also could do with a glass or two of Keo Saint Panteleimon or Keo St John Commandaria.

Daff, never had them from Famagusta market, but we used to go to our local kebab shop in Limasoll where the owner was also the butcher and he made all his own kebabs, they were gorgeous. could just eat one now.

Quickly says hello again to Daff before she slides under the table...

There is only one person on this site that I know of who will understand my secondary cravings..... Kebabs from the back of Famagusta market!!


I also lived on Edam cheese, little cucumber, fresh plum tomatoes and beetroot!!
