Ask for help on the Records office board, it's amazing what some people can find out or point you in the right direction

I think you mean the Index doesn't show the maiden name against the groom. As Joan says, the cert does.

The trick that I use is to find the family on the next census, which gives you the wife's first name. Then look on a site such as Free BMD, find the groom and look at the other entries for that reference. If you are lucky then you will find the bride's name. If there are more than one with the same first name then you have a bit more research to do.....!

I think i read somewhere that the intention was to go back on Births and marriages and to add the maiden names to the search-able indexes BUT this may have been the governments DOVE project that seems to have been shelved ??

I also use Hawkwind option of searching BMD.

Another tip for finding husbands is to search BMD for the name you want and then check the subsequent census to see if you have any matches to those combinations.

Having found say, the grooms names etc on the index, it gives also the surname of the bride.......now go to the index ref of the brides surname and you then get the grooms name plus the bride's first names.....
